The BEST Disney Princess Birthday Ever… on a budget! #BDayOnBudget
August 10, 2015
Both of my daughters have birthdays in the Summer, and since they both absolutely LOVE the Disney Princesses, I am going to share with you how we were able to create a fun, crafty Disney Princess-themed event on a budget! In gearing up for the party, I immediately headed to Walmart. I love shopping for parties at Walmart, because instead of making multiple trips to the grocery store, the bakery, the party supplies store, the toy store, etc., I can make one single trip to Walmart and pick up everything I need for the event (from food to clothes to toys to party supplies and more!) Another thing I absolutely love about shopping at Walmart is that I can always feel confident that I’m getting an incredible value for my money- and that makes me happy! #BDayOnBudget
The BEST Disney Princess Birthday Ever… on a budget!
In perusing the party section of the store, I came across the American Greetings Disney Princess themed supplies, and knew they would be perfect for our party! The aisle has so much to offer, and my girls love “helping” me pick out the supplies!
If you’ve followed this blog for some time, you’ll know that I love parties. I love planning them and I love decorating for them. For this party, I picked out a whole bunch of Disney Princess themed gear, including table covers, invitations, napkins, plates, cups, banners, tiaras, and more. I truly believe when it comes to planning parties, it is the details that matter most! So let’s look at all the fun and crafty ways I incorporated a Disney Princess theme into my party.
First, let’s start with the table centerpiece. In order to make this, I grabbed a a tri-fold poster board and a table cover. In order to attach the table cover to the display board, I first placed the table cover on the floor (printed side down) and placed the poster board on top. I trimmed the table cover so only a few inches remained on each side of the poster board. Then I applied hot glue to the back of the poster board.
After applying hot glue, I folded the table cover back and held it in place until he glue dried (only a few seconds). I repeated this on each side of the poster board. I made sure to pull the table cover taut as I went along. Here is what it looked like when it was done.
Next, I took two Disney Princess heart-shaped plates (how cute are those?!) and hot glued them to one end of a cardboard roll. You can find cardboard rolls at the craft store, or you can just use toilet paper or paper towel rolls.
I then adhered the other end of the cardboard rolls directly to the front of the display board. I love how the cardboard rolls bring the plates forward and give it some dimensionality. I also grabbed some paper streamers in coordinating colors, slightly twisted them and draped them across the top of the banner. Finally, I placed some tiaras on the top corners of the display board to add a bit more interest! Here is what it looked like at this point!
I love the way it looks at this point, but I just wanted to cover up the top center of the display board (where the streamers meet,) so I grabbed another tiara. I cut out the shape of the 3 Princesses and adhered that to the top center of the board. Perfect! It looks finished now!
Once I added the banner & the snacks, the room really started to come together nicely!
Let’s take a closer look at some of the other details now! Here are the various snacks I prepared, along with the adorable labels I printed out for display. (If you want a free printable that has all these Princess-themed labels, click here!)
1. Pink Princess Punch: I simply placed a pink sports drink into the pitcher!
2. True Love’s Kisses: I placed a bunch of chocolate kisses into a Disney Princess tumbler!
3. Ariel’s Fish Friends: I placed some red gummy fish on a plate, positioned to look like a school of fish!
4. Jasmine’s Magic Carpets: I grabbed fruity rolls, cut out rectangles, and then snipped the edges to look like carpet fringe!
5. Pocahontas Popcorn: I simply dressed up some basic popcorn with a drizzle of chocolate syrup, sprinkles and marshmallows!
6. Edible Princess Wands: I threaded grapes and marshmallows onto wooden skewers and then placed them into a tall glass!
7. Cinderella’s Sandwiches: I spread some chocolate hazelnut spread onto some toast, and then used a crown-shaped cookie cutter from Walmart to trim the sandwich into the shape of a princess crown!
8. Cotton Candy Ball Gowns: My girls were in love with this treat! It was really simple to make.
All we had to do was cut out the tops of the Princesses from a tiara, tape them onto the tips of wooden skewers (or lollipop sticks) and then slide up a piece of cotton candy shaped like a skirt! What little princess wouldn’t love these?!
The treats were such a hit, but I have one more crafty tutorial to share with you. It’s an easy one, but one that the children had a blast with… DIY Disney Princess Wands
In order to make these, we grabbed some dowel rods and washi tape. The children helped out wrapping the washi tape around the rods. Then we wrapped and curled some ribbon around the tops of the rods. Finally, we cut out the heads of some Disney Princesses from the plates and embellished them with some colorful glitter! We hot glued them to the tops of the rods and they were done! How adorable are these?!
I love these wands, because the children can participate in making this project during the party. And then, they can take the wands home with them as a fun keepsake & favor from the party!
There’s another use to these Princess Wands. You can use them in a “Name That Princess” game during the party. Each child can get a set of wands and then the children can participate in trying to answer Princess questions by holding up the princess that is associated with a particular question. Some examples of questions would be “Name the princess who lost her glass slipper,” “Name the princess who had seven dwarves,” “Name the princess who loved her magic carpet,” etc. You can obviously cater the difficulty level of the questions to the age of the children. I tried a few with my daughter, and when she wasn’t sure of the answer, she raised two Princess Wands at once! Ha!
We are absolutely loving the American Greetings line of Disney Princess party supplies at Walmart! If you’re thinking about planning a party in the near future, be sure to check out their amazing selection, as you will find a huge variety of affordable party supplies at a great price at a single store! Can’t beat that!

Now that’s really using your head Mom. So clever and so much more fun for your girls. They are both adorable with all that gorgeous curly hair. Those parties will be ones they’ll never forget. Lots more fun to be able to help put together than have somebody come to do it all for you. They’ll learn how to make a great party for when they have kids. Hope they had more fun than ever.
