Achieving bright eyes that look well-rested
July 29, 2015Life can be busy at times with two young kids. There’s always a bottle to fill, a mess to clean up, a tantrum to quell, a crisis (like the marker ran out of ink!!) to handle, etc. Between the kids’ needs, the house, and this blog, I often feel like there is very little time left over for me. This sometimes means that I will neglect my sleep or my needs to just relax & focus on pampering myself. This is something I continually strive to improve.
I have found that when things get really busy, and I’m not sleeping well, it shows: my skin looks tired and dry, my eyes look heavy with under-eye circles that are sooo not-pretty, & my energy always suffers as well. On the other hand, I have found that when my eyes look their best, and are bright and rested and fresh-looking, my whole face shines! So here are some tips I have found to help achieve that rested-eye look (even when I’m not getting a full 8 hours of sleep).
Achieving bright eyes that look well-rested
1. My first tip (& my personal goal) is an obvious one. Get sleep. Doctors often recommend around 8 hours of sleep at night, at least 6 of which are uninterrupted. If you struggle with your sleep, try to improve your sleep environment. Keep the bedroom cool, as that promotes sleep. Try to go to bed at the same time every night and try to wake at the same time every morning (even on weekends!)
2. Drink a lot of water. Keeping my body well-hydrated always results in eyes that look brighter and fresher. One way that I have found to encourage more water-drinking is to make fun & interesting water drinks! I love this Mint Rosewater Club Soda and any of the drinks from my Cool & Refreshing Drinks Perfect for Summer post! I keep a bottle of water with me when I leave the house and I always have a water on my desk.
3. Use makeup tricks to make your eyes look more rested. Sometimes you can fake it til you make it! If you curl your eye lashes and use a flesh-colored pencil to line the inner rim of your lower lashes, you’ll instantly make your eyes look bigger and brighter.
4. Use 3 in 1 Eye Bright! I recently received a sample of this product and I am very pleased with it, so I definitely believe it deserves a space on this list. It’s an eye gel product that helps reduce puffiness, redness and fine lines. It also helps to hydrate, nourish and condition the delicate skin around the eyes. I particularly love the fact that it’s free of parabens, prostaglandins & fragrances. It’s also hypoallergenic and dermatologist tested! You can find it directly on the Lashem website. I posted about a giveaway Lashem was hosting a few weeks ago!
I’ve been using it for several days now. I usually apply it in the evening after cleansing my face. I pat a bit of this gel around the eye and gently work it in to the skin. It comes in a convenient pump that is easy to use, and the proper amount is dispensed each time to take care of both eyes. The gel is thick, but absorbs quickly into the skin. I love that there is no scent to this product. I find that my eyes definitely look brighter and more refreshed after using this product, so this one is a keeper for me!!
