I want a yard that looks great, but I don’t necessarily want to spend days upon days working out there. Enter the beautiful world of lazy landscaping! This is simply the implementation of low-effort, high-impact ways to make your yard look its best.

1. Do It Once
Why mess around with annuals? They require a complete re-planing every year. Skip the annuals and opt for perennials. Yes, they’re most expensive upfront, but the time savings over the long run will definitely make them worthwhile. And it’ll always feel amazing when the new growth magically happens each spring!

2. Just Fake It
Nowadays artificial grass looks very different from the fake grass of yesteryear. Modern synthetic grass, made of nylon or polymer, has multiple heights and shade grades to more fully resemble the real deal. Talk about a maintenance-free solution!

3. Less is More
If your goal is to minimize how much work is required, opt for a few high-impact plants that’ll stand out on their own. One or two beautiful trees (I love a Japanese maple tree) strategically situated in your yard will have a beautiful effect. Also, considering choosing just two or three shrub varieties and alternating their placement to create a visually appealing display.

4. Set it and Forget it
If you have an underground irrigation system, use the timer to automate the lawn watering. However, if you don’t have underground sprinklers, you can still save time & effort by purchasing something like this that attaches to your hose. Dry grass no more!

5. Low Maintenance Is Where It’s At
If you’re looking for easy plants that look great but are very low-maintenance, look no further than hostas, daylilies, ornamental grasses, creeping thymes, any succulents. Incorporate one or more of these into your landscape and save yourself some effort!
