I cannot believe that my older daughter, Sophia, is starting Kindergarten this September! Where has the time gone? I remember her birth so vividly- it was one of the happiest days of our lives! In the past 4 1/2 years, she has brought so much joy, excitement and purpose to our lives and I’m grateful every day for the blessing that she is! Her interests have varied over the years, but these days, she is definitely in love with all things pink, glitter and princesses. In particular, she loves all the Disney Princesses and when she’s not dressing up as one of her favorite royal characters, she is playing with her Disney Princess dolls! Another favorite activity of hers is doing artwork. From morning until nighttime, she loves to draw, paint, color, sketch, etc. and so I made her an adorable No-Sew Artist Apron to encourage her to pursue this interest! This little apron is perfectly sized for her and keeps her outfits nice & clean even during the messiest craft sessions!

DIY No-Sew Artist Apron for Kids

As a female chemical engineer myself, I have always been a big believer that girls can pursue any interests they may have, particularly those in male-dominated fields like engineering! So you better believe that when my daughters express any interest in Science or Math, I jump at the opportunity to encourage them! Whether we’re discussing the process of photosynthesis while walking in the garden, experimenting in the kitchen with baking soda & vinegar, or determining the pattern in a series of colored blocks, I’m always incorporating learning into play time with my girls! In addition to Science & Math, my older daughter definitely loves Art. So we have an arts & crafts session together almost every single day.

In fact, I’m so passionate about encouraging my daughters to pursue their interests that I’m always happy when Sophia reaches for one of her Disney Princess dolls to play with. The Disney Princess dolls definitely send a positive message that girls are powerful, intelligent, kind and strong! Disney Princess dolls also teach little girls that they can be whatever they want to be! Belle was smart & compassionate and found a way to help the Beast. Cinderella was courageous & thoughtful and watched all her dreams come true. Merida was fearless and worked hard to take control of her destiny. The Disney Princesses and their associated stories offer valuable life lessons to little girls!

Right now, Sophia’s big dream is to be a master artist! Of course, all moms know that artwork can get messy, but the fear of stains should not stop her from pursuing her passion & dreams. With this DIY No-Sew Artist Apron, my daughter can continue to draw & paint to her heart’s content!

Ready for the tutorial on how to make the No-Sew Artist Apron? Here’s what you’ll need to get started!

Supplies:
fabric for the apron, about 1 yard
complementary fabric for the pocket, about 1/4 yard
iron-on hem tape
ribbon
scissors
iron

Directions:
1. Start by cutting out the fabric for the apron. Use the shape depicted in the following image. The dimensions shown worked well for my 4 year old, but you may want to alter the dimensions based on the age of your child.

2. Turn the fabric over and make a 3/4″ hem on all sides of the apron. Use the hem tape and the iron to keep the hems intact.

Here’s what it looked like at this point. Notice the nice, crisp edges!

3. Now, it’s time to attach the pocket. Cut a rectangle out of the complementary fabric and use the hem tape on three sides of the fabric to attach to the apron. See the picture below for details.

4. To attach the top straps to the apron, simply use a bit of the hem tape and ribbon on the back side of the apron.

5. Repeat the same procedure for the side straps.

This was a really fun project that will serve my art-loving daughter well for many months!! She is dressed up as one of her favorite characters of all time, Ariel, while painting! Thankfully, my apron will keep her beautiful costume clean and mess-free!


After finishing her art masterpiece, my daughter stopped to play with some of her favorite Disney Princesses! She has really fallen in love with the Disney Princess Sing and Shimmer Dolls. Her favorite one is the Sing and Shimmer Jasmine!

My daughter loved that when she pushes the jewel on Jasmine’s necklace, Jasmine sings “A Whole New World”. Jasmine comes with a beautiful shimmering outfit in her signature blue color. Her golden tiara features blue jewels and her shoes are removable (my daughter loves taking the shoes off)! Jasmine’s hair is gorgeous and totally realistic-looking, too. She can sit or stand! The next two dolls we will be buying are definitely the Sing and Shimmer Ariel & the Sing and Shimmer Rapunzel. Other items in the Sing & Shimmer line include musical dresses, a musical vanity, a musical necklace & so much more!

The Little Kingdom Ariel’s Sea Castle has been another big hit in our house!

It’s actually compatible with all the other accessories in the Little Kingdom line, such as dolls, fashions, etc. The little Ariel doll that comes with this set is about 3 inches tall and can sit or stand! Ariel can play on the swing, slide or the seaweed harness. My daughter loved sending Ariel down the slide!

I love that the castle provides a space to store all the Snap-in accessories. Ariel actually comes with 5 Snap-ins so you can have fun personalizing a unique look! We are definitely going to be heading back to the store to pick up more accessories for the Little Kingdom line.

Another new favorite toy we’ve been playing with is the Disney Princess Petite Ariel & Flounder. Only at Toys “R” Us and Toysrus.com can you find the 6 inch Disney Princess Petite doll line! There is such a wide variety of styles available. I love how the petite Ariel is dressed in a gorgeous night gown and comes with her best friend, Flounder, on a royal pillow! This pocket-sized princess is perfect for cuddling with in bed at night or bringing along to make car trips a bit more magical!

My daughter has also really loved playing with the Disney Princess Royal Shimmer Dolls! We have Belle, Merida and Cinderella. All 11 Disney Princesses (Jasmine, Ariel, Rapunzel, Cinderella, Pocahontas, Mulan, Tiana, Belle, Aurora, Merida and Snow White) are available in the Shimmer Doll line, so we’ll be adding to our collection for sure! Each doll’s shoes are removable and their shimmering gowns feature a glitter accent & ombre effect. They’re really beautiful dolls that are sure to bring a little royal magic to any little princess’ life!
