Update Door Knobs with Bronze Spray Paint

Update Door Knobs with Bronze Spray Paint

Ok, guys, my new camera is here… it’s not a super duper $3000 camera, but it’s a whole lot more customizeable than my last one, so I will be taking more pictures of the new house. I hope you guys stick around and bear with me, as I learn the ropes of how to adjust all the settings. There are a lot of them, trust me!

So, anyway, when we moved in, we just bought new locks, but some of the doors (like the front one) had a bottom handle without a lock so we just left it in place. Here, see what I’m talking about below!

But if you see in the image above, the lock is all brand-new and brushed nickel-silver look. However, the handle portion is brassy and tarnished and not smooth-looking at all!

Here is the original again!

So, this is an easy fix. I picked up a can of this stuff: Oil rubbed bronze spray paint!

So what I did was unscrew the lock, the handle, the door knocker (which was also a tarnished brass color) and the brass foot kick. I laid them all down on some cardboard in the garage, and got to spraying. It took a few coats, but the great thing with this brand is how quickly it dries. It’s fully dry in under an hour. So I can turn it over and then get the other side quickly. I can do a number of coats on each side in one afternoon- easily! I love that!

One note of caution: Make sure you apply several thin coats, rather than one thick coat. If you apply too much at once, you will get dripping and drops and that’s not pretty. So keep it light with the spray can!

Here is the full door finished: with the matching door knocker and foot kick thing-y (technical term, by the way).

Sorry for the mess next to the door. Keepin’ it real, over here at Casa EngineerMommy!
