DIY Organizing Art Supplies
January 12, 2015We love letting the kids do art here. It’s messy and it often requires me to clean up quite a bit once they are done, but it’s so much fun for the kiddos to let their creativity soar and create masterpieces. So as I wrote in my Resolutions that Every Mom Should Make, I am making a concerted effort to make sure my daughters are always given an opportunity to draw, color, paint, and be creative.
DIY Organizing Art Supplies
So I love to organize stuff (see this post, this post and this post). And one of the first things you need to do when you set out on an organizing project is to assess your inventory. I found these markers in an old pencil box.
I found this container with random markers, pencils, colored pencils.
I had these double-ended crayons and a pencil sharpener in a storage ottoman. Just sitting there – loose and intermingled among other random knick knacks.
The next step was to collect my pretty organizational baskets and totes. I had a set of five pretty tins with handles that I have picked up over the years from Target’s Dollar Spot.
I also picked up this large blue tote from Dollar Tree.
My vision is to organize the supplies logically into the various tins and then store the tins in the tote. And of course I must label the tote with the word “art” in pretty scrapbook decal stickers! Everything always needs a pretty sticker!
Here is how it is organized now! I love it!
I love how if Sophia wants to do just do a Color Wonder page, I can whip out the single container that holds these particular markers and hand it to her. If she is not sure which supplies she wants to use, she can sample & pick from the big tote. She loves having options, too! 🙂
