DIY Golden Rock Paperweights

I am a big fan of garden projects. Ever since we bought this single family house a few years ago, we have been adding fun whimsical touches to our backyard… like this garden globe, this backyard chalkboard for the kids, this backyard racetrack and so many more.
Now that we are spending so much time outside, I like to spruce up our outdoor space. There are a few projects I have in mind for this year. I’m thinking of installing a permanent wooden pergola in the backyard. The one you saw in this post blew down during a particularly nasty storm one day! Oops – I knew we should have taken it inside!
Another project we have in mind for the backyard is to grow more grass throughout the backyard. We have LARGE patches of dirt, soil and sand (we used to own a sizable sand box for the kids). We want to replace all that with some nice, lush grass. So we are planning on planting some grass seed back there this summer. We did that once and it worked well.
Today I will show you how I took some basic rocks & stones from the backyard (luckily, my yard has plenty of them for projects like this!), stacked them up in a tall tower formation and spray-painted them gold (this is my fave spray paint). This project was so much fun that I am definitely intending to make more of these babies. In fact, I have some huge rocks boulders that I would love to use to make a jumbo version! The jumbo version could go right in the flower beds!
Start by grabbing a handful of small rocks/stones. Wash them under warm water to rinse away all the soil/debris. Let them dry fully.
Use hot glue to secure a stack of them upright. Feel free to experiment with orientation, size, etc. to get a fun, organic look. This is my favorite glue gun.
Take your rock towers outside and spray paint them gold.
I really love the way these came out! These rock towers would be the perfect addition to a fairy garden!!
You can use them outdoors on a patio table for cute decor with an organic flair!
Or you could bring them indoors and use them as a paperweight in the office. That’s how I have been using them.

Want to see another project with rocks? See how we painted some last year – this was a fun project for the kids! Here are some more fun garden projects & ideas!!

Fun and easy project that the kids can even help with. Fools gold is what I can see them calling these rocks after they paint them.
This gold rock looks fabulous! I’m always into chic and unique pieces. I have to give this a try asap.
I love how that came out. Rocks are amazing and the smooth and jagged shapes are so unique and when the are painted are real works of art.
These look so stylish and easy to make. I really love the shimmer on that gold color – it would be a great way to spruce up the office for sure!
Oh I love the look of these! What a simple idea and yet so effective! Love the gold effect!
These are really cute. I like that you can use them a number of ways, not just in the garden. I do love a good fairy garden!
My husband is obsessed with rock too! He bought a bunch of them and placed on our backyard. The golden color is gorgeous!
What a fun craft! My girls love to paint rocks and leave them around town for people to find!
