3 Important Life Lessons

Life has its ups and downs and while I’ve experienced some amazing successes & triumphs over the years, I’ve also faced quite a few setbacks & hardships along the way. As a mom now, one of my goals is to instill in my daughters some of the life lessons I’ve learned over the years. These include pursuing one’s life passion, developing a sense of grit and persevering through obstacles. In fact, all of these lessons have been exemplified in the upcoming movie, American Underdog.

American Underdog follows the inspirational, real-life story of Kurt Warner, who was stocking shelves at a grocery store. He followed his dream to pursue a football career and eventually became a two-time NFL MVP, Super Bowl champion, and Hall of Fame quarterback. It’s such a unique, motivational storyline that highlights how despite numerous setbacks along the way, Kurt persevered through it all to keep moving forward. With the support of his wife and family, coaches and fans, Kurt typifies the axiom that truly anything is possible with the right determination and support system.

Some of the top 3 life lessons I’ve been teaching my daughters happen to closely follow the theme of the American Underdog movie:

  1. Pursue your passions. As the old saying goes, “if you enjoy your job, you won’t work a day in your life.” I’m always encouraging my daughters to think about what sparks their imagination & interests and then build a career around those subjects.
  2. Prepare for setbacks. Life is never going to be without hardships. I’m always teaching my girls that obstacles are part of life, and while we cannot eliminate them completely, we can prepare ourselves to face them with grace.
  3. Create a support network. One of the most important things we have in this world is our relationships with others. I encourage my girls to surround themselves with friends & family that support & uplift them.

These three lessons are truly brought to life in the American Underdog movie, which is going to be released in theaters nationwide on Christmas Day. It’s the perfect feel-good movie for kids & adults alike. For a quick preview of the movie, check out the trailer here:

Also, check out this Dad 2.0 podcast interview with Kurt Warner and the man who portrays him, actor Zachary Levi; it’s a fascinating behind-the-scenes look at the storyline. Here’s the audio version of the interview.

Don’t forget to check out the American Underdog movie on Christmas Day 2021. It’s a true family love story! Does this sound like a movie your family might enjoy?
