5 Arch Support Myths & A Giveaway
March 17, 2018This is a sponsored post written by me for SelectFlex Adjustable Orthotics. All opinions are mine alone.
I have a long history of foot pain, flat feet and trying to find relief for it all. I recently wrote a post (see it here) about my experience with SelectFlex Adjustable Orthotics and how they are a smart solution for finding just the right support for one’s feet. Today I am going to share five commonly held myths about foot orthotics. Plus, I’m giving a free pair of SelectFlex Orthotics and a $20 Visa Gift Card! Keep reading for all the details.
5 Arch Support Myths & A Giveaway
Myth #1: All orthotics are the same.
A common misconception about foot orthotics is that they are all the same. Quite the contrary is true. In fact, there are a wide variety of orthotics available on the market – some just add extra cushion to the sole of the foot, some add a predetermined amount of support to the foot, and some (like SelectFlex) offer an adjustable amount of support to the foot.
Myth #2: Orthotics are for senior citizens.
One may mistakenly believe that orthotics are for older people… that there is no way younger people could benefit from the right pair of orthotics. However, the truth is that people of all ages can potentially benefit from added support in their footwear. In fact, I was only 16 when I first got a pair.
Myth #3: With orthotics, I will have to wear bulky, orthopedic sneakers.
I admit it… I was originally worried about this one. I assumed I would only be able to wear those big, bulky white sneakers. Luckily, it’s totally possible to wear a wide variety of casual shoes and sneakers with orthotics in them. My everyday pair of designer flats even has a pair of orthotics in them…. Shhhh! 🙂
Myth #4: Orthotics are uncomfortable.
Some people may think that orthotics will be difficult to “break into”. As long as you follow the best practices of gradually wearing them in over a period of a few weeks, orthotics are quite easy to get used to. In fact, as long as they’re properly sized and suited for your feet, they should never increase pain or cause blisters.
Myth #5: Arch supports will never help with pain in the knee, hip, or back.
The truth is that proper body alignment starts in the feet. It is not uncommon for back pain (or other joint pain) to be alleviated with the proper foot orthotics. Of course, if you are suffering from any pain, it is always advisable to be seen by a licensed physician in your area.
So now that I’ve shared some popular myths about arch supports, let’s get to the giveaway, shall we? Here are the rules. The giveaway will run from 3/17-3/25 and is open to residents of the United States. Once the giveaway period has ended, I will randomly select a winner and the fulfillment of the giveaway prize will be handled by the brand.

Great roundup of arch support myth busters! I have an acquaintance who has been wearing orthopedic sneakers since her teenage years, so I knew these issues are not only experienced by the elderly.
I have to wear orthotics prescribed by the hospital and I have to admit I find shoes without them so uncomfortable now they really can make all the difference when your foot is held well.
