Homemade Puffy Paint for Kids

My kids love to do arts & crafts. We always have little art stations set up throughout the house. Whether they’re drawing, painting, coloring, etc., they’re always imagining & creating! And I totally encourage it!
Letting them explore their creative sides and create a masterpiece from basic supplies is one of the joys of childhood. So to create a fun spin on painting, I created some homemade puffy paint for kids. Let me just say that this paint is very puffy and the kids really had a blast with this activity.
What’s even better is that you probably have all the supplies in your home already! Check out the easy recipe below:
Homemade Puffy Paint for Kids
Supplies:
1 cup self-rising flour
1/2 cup salt
food colors
water, as needed
Directions:
1. Mix the flour & salt in a small mixing bowl.
2. Add your flour & salt mixture to a small plastic bag. Top with a few drops of food coloring. Seal the bag and combine to make the color uniform throughout. Repeat for all the colors.
3. Then, snip a tiny hole in the corners of the plastic bags and squeeze the mixture onto some white paper to create your design.
4. Once done designing, pop the drawing into the microwave for 20 second increments and watch the paint puff up! Be careful as the paint will be hot.
The kids really had a blast with this project. They love it whenever we make handmade art supplies and this one was no exception! The flower one was made by my 4 year old!
I hope you enjoyed this kid’s craft activity! If you’d like to see more crafting ideas for the kids, be sure to subscribe to the newsletter so you never miss an update!
