Tips to protect your skin this Summer

July 2, 2015 0 By EngineerMommy

With Summer in full bloom around here, it’s so important to make sure we are all taking care of our skin on a daily basis. From ultraviolet rays to pollution to fatigue, there are so many factors that get in the way of beautiful, clear skin. However, there are also several (very easy) ways to protect your skin from the sun, and keep it looking youthful and fresh!

1. Use sunscreen daily. Whether your daily moisturizer has SPF in it or you slather on a separate, dedicated sunscreen, make sure you protect your skin from the sun on a daily basis. Don’t forget to protect the skin on your shoulders and feet, which are often easily-overlooked areas.

2. Avoid midday sun. If you plan on going for a walk, taking the kids to a park, or just spending some time outdoors, try to avoid being outdoors in the middle of the day, when the sun is at its hottest and the UV rays are at their strongest. Instead, get into the habit of enjoying the outdoors early in the morning or late in the evening.

3. Stay hydrated. When the temperatures rise, it is essential to stay hydrated, particularly when you are working out. Your skin needs moisture to look healthy and beautiful, so make sure to drink at least 8 cups of water every day. Consider adding fruits and/or herbs to your water to create interesting flavor profiles, so that you will be tempted to drink more often.

4. Wear a sunhat. It’s such an easy and simple step, but it can really make a difference in protecting your skin from the harsh rays of the sun. I recently had the pleasure of receiving the Scala Collezione sunhat for review purposes, and I was so impressed by it that I wanted to tell you a little bit more about it.

The Scala Collezione brand offers literally hundreds of different styles of fashionable and stylish hats, so anyone can definitely find a favorite within their collection. The hats offered are very affordable (typically under $35!) and can be purchased from many retailers (stores & online). Many hats in their line are offered with a UPF50+ rating, which means it is protecting the skin on your face and scalp from the harmful effects of the solar radiation. The particular hat I received is the LC484, and it’s one of their most popular hats- and for good reason.

It features a flattering brim size (2.5 inches), which can be worn up or down. It is made out of cotton and is available in 25 gorgeous colors.

My favorite part? The adjustable drawstring inside the hat ensures a perfect fit!

And I love the small metal label on the back of the hat. It gives it such character!

It’s so easy to keep this hat by my front door, and simply throw it on before leaving the house. Not only is it super flattering and fashionable, but it is also doing something good for my skin. With the UPF50+ rating, I know it is keeping my skin safe from the sun! I love the white hat, because it matches everything, but there are so many other fabulous colors available in the line, that I just might need to add to my Scala collection.

If you’re in the market for a new sunhat (or would just like to take an easy step to protect your skin from the sun), be sure to check out the Scala sunhat today!
