Paint a Chalkboard onto a Composition Notebook
August 28, 2015I have another cute back-to-school DIY for you all today. You know those black and white composition notebooks everywhere?! Yea, you know which ones I’m talking about! You don’t have to settle for plain, boring and predictable! You can simply paint it with a custom chalkboard paint color and then you have a cute little canvas, perfect for displaying your latest message! How fun!
Now, if you’re sending your child to school with this, you might want to just make sure with his/her teachers, that it’s still okay. However, you don’t have to be heading back to school to be able to use those ever-present composition notebooks! I have been known to pick up a few (or many) of those composition notebooks during late August, when prices on them plummet! I have found them for only 50 cents! What a steal! I buy several of them, customize them and then use them to keep track of notes, messages, business plans, finances, blog ideas, etc.
So are you wondering how to make one of these babies?! Here’s the easy how-to!

Supplies:
one composition notebook
acrylic paint, any color
a few tbsp. of unsanded grout
painter’s tape

Directions:
1. In a small container, combine the paint and grout. Stir together with a small wooden craft stick.

2. Place painter’s tape on the notebook to protect the black spine area that you don’t want to paint. Paint the notebook, using long, even strokes.

4. When done painting, simply remove the painter’s tape and let dry fully.

5. Prime the chalkboard surface (rub chalk all over the surface). Then draw your message on the front cover!

Love your back to school crafting ideas, the composition chalkboard was so cute, love that idea and the metal pencil cup embroidered is so cute and different. Just bought one other day at $tree so will have to fix it up for grand daughter in sophomore year in high school. Her sister just left last week for college so she could use little cheering up.
