Our new granite countertops: a before and after look

When we first moved into the townhouse, we wanted to do something to the plain white builder-grade counters, but we didn’t want to invest a ton of money on a solid-stone product at that time. So we painted our countertops with a faux granite paint product here. It came out surprisingly nice. We were impressed. It looked a bit like a real stone. From afar.

After a while, though, the counters started to look worn. The paint actually wore away and peeled off in multiple places. Not pretty. You can see that in some of the pictures below. Look closely at the old countertop right in front of the sink. It’s not a coincidence that that is the area where the paint peeled the most. That is the area that got the most wear and tear.

Here are some “in progress” shots. We took off the old countertops ourselves to save money.

And here are our shiny, new counters. I love the grain pattern.
