Thrift Store Shelf Makeover

So this post should have been posted a few months ago, because that’s when this makeover was actually done, but you know, life has a funny way of getting in the way! So anyway, this is just an easy makeover… a simple sanding and painting transformed this ugly worn-out shelf into a beautiful feature piece in my daughter’s room!

So this is what the shelf looked like when I brought it home… it was red and the paint was peeling/chipping. Not cute at all!

All I had to do was sand it down to smooth out the surface and prepare for the painting step. Next, I took the same color that I painted the dresser and the DIY wall art and painted the shelf this color. I used both a regular bristle brush (for the corners and edges) and a small foam roller brush (for all the flat sides). I actually needed 2 coats to get a nice and even coverage.

It was actually such an easy, satisfying project and I absolutely LOVE the way it looks in the room… not to mention all the additional space it adds to style and decorate and display her cutest stuffed animals (only the purple and white ones, of course)! 🙂
