How is it that junk drawers always becomes a catch-all space for so many different random things?! Just the other day, I needed some tape and a pencil for a project, and it took me quite a while to find those items in my drawer! A kitchen drawer should make life easier, not harder. And ideally, it should be quick and painless to locate a pen within the drawer! So I decided to tackle this problem by completely organizing this drawer. Organizing it really only took me about 20 minutes and was such a simple (and satisfying) solution to such a common problem! I will show you my process of how I transformed my junk drawer from messy & cluttered to neat & organized! And read on to see another simple solution to a common everyday problem! #ChooseNexium24HR #CollectiveBias

Simple Solutions: Organizing my Junk Drawer

Here is what it looked like at the beginning of this process. No, I am not proud of its “Before” state, but I’m just keeping it real and showing you the transformation I was able to achieve!

Step One: Empty & Clean the drawer.
While you have your drawer completely empty, take the opportunity to wipe it down well. You’ll be surprised at the dirt that accumulates at the bottom of these drawers!

Step Three: Assess the Items.
Evaluate the inventory of this drawer. Purge items that are broken, expired or no longer useful. Move things that don’t really belong in your junk drawer to another (more practical) location in your house. Then, from what you have left, group like items. Collect together all the pens, screwdrivers, tapes, batteries, etc.

Step Four: Place organizing baskets in the drawer.
Pick up these small organizing baskets (or drawer baskets) and place them in your drawer. These will house all of the drawer’s contents in designated areas to keep everything neat & orderly.

Step Five: Re-load the drawer.
Once all the organizing baskets are in place, simply load the contents of the drawer back into the drawer. Always keep like items together.

And that’s it! Pretty straightforward and simple. I love a simple solution to a common problem, and getting my junk drawer organized definitely solves the problem of struggling to find what I need- when I need it! And what a big difference, right?
