My Evening Skincare Routine
October 24, 2015Does your skincare routine need an overhaul? Today, I’m sharing the steps I take every evening to keep my skin looking its best. From cleansing to exfoliating to moisturizing, taking care of your skin does not need to be difficult or time-consuming. I’m also sharing some details of a new exfoliating product that is multi-tasking and saving me so much time!
My Evening Skincare Routine
Step 1: Cleanse
The first step I do is to thoroughly cleanse the face, removing any make-up, dirt, oils, etc. that have accumulated throughout the day. I simply massage the cleanser into my skin using circular motions and let it sit for a few minutes to allow it to dissolve dirt. Then, I remove it by splashing my face with warm water and patting dry with a clean towel.
Step 2: Tone
I strive to tone my skin every day. I find that it really helps with shrinking my pores and just leaving my skin looking (and feeling) great! Toner is used to restore the pH levels of the skin to healthy levels. I always apply toner by pouring some onto a cotton pad and wiping it all over the face.
Step 3: Exfoliate
I have recently discovered an amazing exfoliating product, Farmacy New Day Gentle Exfoliating Grains. And it’s not just an exfoliator. This multi-tasking powerhouse product also cleanses and clarifies the skin in one step! With two young kids and a ton of responsibilities, I don’t have a lot of time at the end of the day, so I love that this product can replace so many traditional skincare steps!
These Exfoliating Grains create a whole new skincare experience in an innovative way! Specifically, with the addition of water, the cleansing grains transform into a foaming exfoliating cream! How cool is that?! Here is what the grains look like in their original state.
And here is what they look like with the addition of water.
This product contains a number of powerful yet gentle ingredients, including cranberry seeds (providing a deep clean), rice bran powder (loosening dry skin cells) and a complex of Carrot, Green Tea and Marshmalow (calming the skin). Another amazing thing is that the botanicals in the product are all farm-grown and hand-picked in upstate NY, where the plant is cultivated by Robert Beyfuss and Mark Veeder. Oh, and GreenEnvy™ (a patent-protected variant of Echinacea Purpurea) contains the highest known concentration of Cichoric Acid, which is a potent natural antioxidant that promotes an even complexion! After using this product for several days, I’m really loving the way my skin feels (and looks) afterward: fresh, clean and renewed!
If you’d like to try this product for yourself, you can pick it up from Farmacy Beauty or from Sephora (online or in-store)- the retail price is $30. Learn more about it by watching the video below!

Wondering how to use it? It’s simple! Just pour a small amount of the grains about the size of a quarter into your hand and mix with a few drops of water. Mix until a foaming paste forms and massage onto skin with gentle circular sweeping motions. Rinse with warm water and pat dry. Easy peasy!
Step 4: Apply Serum
I often like to apply a serum before moisturizing my skin. I believe that a serum might be considered an optional step in a skincare routine, but I love adding one to my daily regimen! Serums tend to look and feel like oils or light lotions, and are densely packed with ingredients that are great for the skin. Different types of serums to look for include anti-aging serums, acne-fighting serums, vitamin-packed serums, etc.
Step 5: Moisturize
This is one of the most important steps in a skincare routine. There are all sorts of product types available on the market, from moisturizing gels to creams to lotions. Even if you have oily skin, a moisturizer should be a regular part of your skincare routine. Particularly in the Fall and Winter months, I notice that if I accidentally skip moisturizer one day, my skin shows the (negative) effects of being under-moisturized.
I hope these steps help you establish a smart skincare routine for yourself that will help you achieve a healthy, youthful appearance!
Now, tell me in the Comment below: What does your skincare routine look like these days?!

Nice to read about your routine. It’s important to do all these things before bedtime.
By having a routine, it actually doesn’t take long at all. And in the long run, my skin can look its best!
I have to admit I really need to sort out a routine, I am loving the look of those cleansing beads, what an awesome way to exfoliate. x
Yes, Sarah! It’s really a fabulous experience using the exfoliating grains! Hope you try them!
great routine. I NEED a routine because I’m so horrible at taking care of my skin 🙁 I definitely want to try the Exfoliating Grains
You can find them at Sephora! I stop by Sephora like once a week lol! Thanks for stopping by!
I think that I need to apply some vitmin C serum. I hear it helps restore your skin and can heal scaring. Your routine is much like mine though, mines the serum, but I really need to start using something.
I don’t always remember the serum but I try to include it in my routine most nights.
Sounds like a great skin care routine and the products you use are awesome. I wish they’re available here 😀
You can order pretty much all of them online via Sephora’s website! Thanks for visiting, Maureen!
It’s always nice to see people who take pride in looking after themselves! Seems like a great way to keep your skin in mint condition 🙂
That is quite the routine for the evening. I just use a gentle cleanser and moisturize before bed.
My routine typically only takes about 10 minutes MAX! Well worth it to keep my skin looking its best! Thanks for stopping by,Shell!
What a great skincare routine. I normally just wash my face before bed and that’s about it. I would love to try these other steps.
Yes the other steps make this a complete routine. Washing the face is important but is only part of the process. It’s always a bonus when you find a product like these Exfoliating Grains by Farmacy Beauty that take care of a few steps all in one!!
This looks like an awesome product and I love your routine! It looks like you have a great schedule down pat – I have a routine for morning and night and its definitely essential!!

Yes, once you find a routine that works, it’s so easy and effortless to follow it every day!
I have a very similar routine, and up until recently I wasn’t doing the exfoliation. That really makes a difference!
Oh yeah, the exfoliation is such an important step! I find it makes such a big difference in the appearance of my skin!
Thank you for sharing your evening skincare routine as mine is currently non-existent. I used to use the Obagi system, but it’s terribly expensive.
The products I use everyday are all totally affordable! Check them out if you’d like to switch over!
I seriously need to come up with a better routine! I used to just be able to get away with washing my face. But this pregnancy, has gotten me completely broken out!
I had a similar experience during my pregnancies! Oh the joys of pregnancy! 🙂
Your skin routine is so helpful! I usually apply creme daily. My skincare products are a must in the mornings.
Thanks for visiting, Michele!
Great skincare routine. Mine is similar but I don’t exfoliate as often as I should. The Farmacy exfoliate looks like a great product.
It is a fabulous one. I’m very pleased with how my skin looks after using it! I’ll be keeping this one around for sure!!
it is so important to have a good skin routine especially before bed. thanks for sharing. i have to tighten up on mine.
I love taking that time to focus on my skin!
As I get older, my skin could definitely use this. The weather changing has my skin drying already and I need to exfoliate.
I find exfoliation such an important step, especially in the cold Fall & Winter months!
I must admit that this isn’t something that I am very consistent with and I need to get on the ball. I’m not getting any younger.
It really doesn’t take long to get a routine like this going!
