DIY Christmas Tree with NJ Lottery Holiday Games
December 2, 2019This is a sponsored post written by me for The New Jersey Lottery. All opinions are mine alone.
The holiday season is my favorite time of year: the festive tunes, the beautiful decorations, the yummy treats, spending time with family… I love it all! This year, I made my own Wooden Christmas Tree Wall Art to display my New Jersey Scratch-Off Tickets and I can’t wait to share the tutorial with you. Not only will this piece serve as festive decor throughout the season, but the NJ Lottery Holiday tickets can also be handed out as party favors at our Christmas gathering. What’s better than a party favor that offers the chance of winning big?!
There are four new Holiday Scratch-Off Games this year: $1 Holiday Luck, $2 Holiday Lucky Times 10, $5 Holiday Lucky Bonus, and $10 Winter Wishes. These tickets make a great gift idea or stocking stuffer for any adult on your holiday shopping list. Need something for the neighbor? What about the mail carrier? Scratch-Off tickets offer the novelty of a wrapped gift, the excitement of playing a game and the possibility of a large cash prize. Since there’s no wrapping required, these are a breeze to give or send to anyone. You can find the Holiday Scratch-Offs at any local lottery retailer.
Let’s get right to the tutorial now. To start, I grabbed a 2’x2′ piece of plywood from the home improvement store. Using a pencil, I drew a rough outline of the tree form: a triangle with little notches along the sides.
Using my jigsaw, I cut the wood along the pencil marks. It’s not perfect, but it doesn’t need to be – trees are not perfect in real life either! 🙂
Next I painted the wood with two coats of green acrylic paint. Once dry, I wrapped some green twine around the tree. The notches along the sides help to make the piece look more like a tree and also help to hold the twine in place. I secured the twine on the back with some heavy-duty packaging tape but some staples would also work.
To be able to hang this on the wall, I used a hammer to insert this piece on the back of the wood.
I gathered all my NJ Scratch-Off tickets and thought about how I should display them. By the way, these tickets were provided to me by the New Jersey Lottery but these Holiday Scratch-Offs can be picked up from any brick and mortar lottery retailer. I usually pick up mine from the local Wawa. By the way, if your Scratch-Off tickets are not winners, Million Dollar Replay allows you to enter them into second chance drawings. You could be selected as 1 of 400 who win a $250 prize or 1 of 15 who win a prize between $10,000 – $1,000,000.
I used these mini clothespins to hang the NJ Lottery scratch-off tickets from the twine. I put only one kind of Scratch-Off ticket on each piece of twine. I’m so happy with the look of this piece!
What tree is complete without a topper and trunk? I added the Winter Wishes ticket on the bottom as the tree trunk. I also created a spiral array of the Holiday Luck tickets as a tree topper.
I am so proud of the finished piece. I know this will add some fun holiday decor to my home for the rest of the season.
I think it’s sure to be a conversation starter at our holiday party.
Since the tickets are hanging on clothespins, it’s so simple to take one off to give to a guest as a party favor. Holiday Scratch-Offs really do make gift-giving simple!
Pick up your own NJ Lottery Holiday Scratch-Offs to make your own DIY Wooden Christmas Tree. Have you ever made something using scratch off tickets? Are you hosting any holiday parties this year?

Thank you! It’s a great gift idea!
What a fun idea. I always hope I’ll win the lottery. I’ll buy tickets and keep my fingers crossed.
I always get my husband some scratch-off tickets every year for Christmas. This would be cute to do for him, but it would definitely have less “ornaments” on it!
hah this is a great idea to do for a holiday party im putting on! woohoo!
What a clever way to decorate and have gifts handy! We usually get lottery tickets in our stockings, but I really like this idea!
Very cute idea! Giving lottery tickets as stocking stuffers always seemed like a good idea, and this would be a fun holiday party idea 🙂
We give out lottery tickets to our adult nieces and nephews every year. I think they look forward to those gifts the most! I love your lottery tree. I may have to make one this year too!
It’s such a fun idea! 🙂
That’s a dorable and I would love to make something like this for work. I think it would be a fun way to spend a part of our meeting!
That could be one heck of an Advent calendar! I could totally make this for a charity auction, as well! Those types of entries always bring a lot of bids
One of my favorite things to do when Christmas is coming is setting up and decorating the Christmas tree! This DIY Christmas tree looks really great with all those NJ lottery holiday games!
Thank you, Dennis!
That is adorable! I sure would want to pick a ticket from that tree. My luck could be on that tree. 🙂
Oh, wow this is such a creative idea. Plus, you’re right it is definitely a conversation starter.
Definitely a conversation starter! 🙂
That is such a great idea. I really love this! So much fun too. I bet everyone would love to have one of these.
This is a very cute idea! What did you use to stick the tree top lottery tickets on with without ruining them? You didn’t mention that unless I missed seeing it somewhere.
