So if you’ll remember, I took those small plastic animals that you can get at the dollar store, sawed them in half, painted them and created this cool set of hooks with the front half of the animals!

Today’s post shows you what I did with the back halves! It’s really a fun, simple project that will brighten up your office bulletin board! I love the cute impact made by these little animal push pins!! Let’s get to the tutorial now, shall we?

So here are the back halves of all the animals left over!

The first step, of course, is to spray paint them. I chose this light blue-turquoise color, because it is the predominant color of my office and I knew it would look great on my bulletin board (also a blue shade!) As always, when spray painting, use multiple lighter coats rather than fewer thicker coats (to avoid drips).

Now, some of the interiors of these animals are hollow, while others are completely solid inside. The things you learn when you saw plastic animals in half!! Anyway, so in order to give the Steel Thumb Tackssomewhere to grab onto, I filled the hollow animals with some white caulk. Let them dry overnight (or even 2 nights).

Next, I used some Krazy Glue Gel and placed a small dollop of it on the animal and then placed the flat side of a thumbtack into the gel, pushing it down into the gel to create a strong bond. Make sure to let them dry well (while sitting upright so the glue gel doesn’t drip off the animal.)

Once dry, they’re ready to go! Stick ’em into your bulletin board and smile at your handiwork!
