DIY bathtub shelf
May 31, 2014With two kids under three years old, I love my time for relaxing! I love taking a bath and just closing my eyes and resting. It’s divine after a long day spent cleaning up all sorts of kid messes!
But I always go into the bathtub with a ton of stuff: a drink or two (usually tea), my cell phone, my tablet, sometimes a magazine, sometimes a candle, sometimes a snack!
And there’s not enough room for all these things. So I wanted to create an easy bathtub shelf to solve this problem, and I’m sharing the tutorial here with you all! It’s an easy one, I promise!
DIY bathtub shelf
Supplies:
- board of wood (I had extra wood left over after this project)
- two small 1″ x 2″ boards of wood, cut to 5 inches long
- wrapping paper
- Modge Podge
- paint
Steps:
- Make sure the length of your wood equals the width of your bathtub. It needs to fit across the width of the bathtub. The home improvement store will usually cut it for free.
- Position the small boards to wood on the underside of the big board, aligned just inside the edges of the bathtub to prevent the shelf from slipping.
- Paint your wood. Let dry.
- Attach the wrapping paper using Modge Podge to spruce up the final design. Seal the whole board with Modge Podge as a protective sealant.

This is a great idea! I would love to have one of these to watch my Kindle while I relax in the bath. Thank you for sharing!

I love this, I love lying reading in the bath so I wonder if my husband had a piece of wood?
I don’t like plastic ones so this is a great alternative.
Thanks so much for stopping by! Have a great day!
