Kids craft idea- paint a rock
May 1, 2014My three year old LOVES arts & crafts! Nothing is a more foolproof way to keep her busy & entertained (or a more foolproof way to get the house a bit messy) than setting her up with some markers, paints, stickers, glue, etc.
I try to keep it fresh for her by varying her art medium and her art tools. I let her make artwork with crayons, markers, dry erase markers, craft paint, watercolor paint, finger paints, pastels, etc. As far as tools are concerned, she usually uses a brush or her fingers… although sometimes her face or hair get involved. I told you it can get pretty messy!
Anyway, until now I usually only give her paper to make her artwork. This works fine. I can give her different colored construction paper, thick card stocks, or one of her new faves, some graph paper.
And then one day, while we were walking around the neighborhood, which we like to do regularly, she found a rock on the street that looked unusual. She wanted to take it home and “make it pretty”- as she put it. I went along with it.
Since then, we’ve done a lot of artwork with items from nature that we find along our walks. I’ll post about those another time. But for now, check out these pics of her painted rock.
The next time you need to entertain your little one, go for a little nature walk to find some rocks to paint and decorate! I’m sure it will be a hit!
