Make your own rolling roller board for kid sensory play- a DIY project
March 30, 2014My daughter seeks sensory input- she loves to experience life! She loves to swing high and slide fast. She loves to get messy with paints, foams, and water. She loves to run around and touch and explore new surroundings. So when I realized I could make a sensory roller board that would entertain and thrill my daughter, I knew I had to give it a whirl.
Here is a sneak peek at the finished project.
It really was a piece of cake to assemble. We went to Home Depot and found a piece of unfinished shelving in the molding aisle on clearance for $1. Yes, you read right! One buck! You know I love a good deal. They cut it for me there. I am probably the only person in the history of Home Depot to not have a specific size in mind when I asked him to cut it. I just approximated the size that I thought would be appropriate for my daughter. It’s roughly 12″ x 16″, but the size is not all that important. We also picked up a package of caster wheels.
Make sure to get the swivel wheels. We need these wheels to swivel to make for a fun ride!!
Simply attach the four wheels to the bottom of the board using screws. Pre-drill the holes first so you don’t split the wood.
Then use some foam from the craft store to make some soft padding for your board. And cover with your desired fabric. Use a staple gun to secure your fabric. It’s pretty sturdy and has gotten a lot of use so far! 🙂
My daughter gave it two thumbs up, so I take that as a huge success!
