DIY Fabric in picture frame transformation: easy, cheap wall art idea

March 17, 2014 2 By EngineerMommy

I’ve had the same wall art in our living room for a few years now. I got these frames from Home Goods a while back, and although I liked them for a while, I’m just so tired of them. I’m in desperate need for a change.

If you’ve ever shopped for artwork for a living room, you’ll soon realize that artwork is expensive. If you go to a high-end retailer, you’re looking at HUNDREDS of dollars for a frame with artwork inside. If you go to a big-box chain, you’ll probably be able to get something decent between 50 and 100 bucks.

But guess what? I got my artwork put together for about $7! Yes, SEVEN DOLLARS!

Here is the finished product.

Not bad, right?

Ok, now a disclaimer! I already had the picture frames in the house. So the 7 bucks is only for the fabric inside. But if you have old picture frames in the house, then you can put this artwork together too for next to nothing!

So here is the picture frame with the original artwork inside.

That little bird wasn’t doing it for me anymore!

I turned over the frame and basically had to take apart the frame. It’s not as intuitive as a regular photo frame, but it’s the same principle anyway.

Your picture frame may be a bit different but all I had to do was pull apart the paper covering. Then I pried away the staples and took out the old poster picture. I wrapped that in my new fabric and reassembled the whole thing.

Here is the finished product again.

And here are the two of them hanging on the wall.
