DIY Painted Parisian Headboard

In this post, I talked about how we decided to spruce up Charlotte’s bedroom and then I talked about how that led to upgrades in Sophia’s room like her Purple Hexagon desk upgrade. Today I’ll share how we painted a headboard right onto her wall!
We are going with a Parisian theme for Sophia’s bedroom. We found pink and white sheets with French sayings on them. Sophia loved them and that sealed the deal – Parisian theme it is!
To add some drama to the wall behind her bed, we wanted a tall headboard, but her bed already came with a small headboard. We didn’t want to deal with hassle and cost of a new one, so we decided to paint a bigger one right on the wall!
We started by sketching the outline of the headboard in pencil. To create a symmetric shape, we measured a piece of cardboard that’s exactly half the width of her bed. Then we traced half of the headboard shape onto the cardboard and cut it out. Then the cardboard served as our template. Trace onto one side of the wall and then flip the cardboard & trace onto the other half.
Use painter’s tape to extend the “headboard” look all the way to the floor.
Once the full shape is traced on the wall, we simply filled it in with pink paint. We used a small roller to get an even finish.
The finished product looks absolutely great. To add a bit more glamour, I added this white scroll decal (from Dollar Tree) to the top of the headboard. I think it adds a bit extra French flair, don’t you think?
Here’s another corner of her room with some additional French touches. The decals on the wall are right from Dollar Tree. Here’s another decal option from Amazon! The picture frame was repurposed from another room – I printed out the girl in a beret silhouette right from the web.
What do you think? Does this headboard look legit? Would you do a painted headboard for a kid’s bedroom?!
