I have been hearing the benefits of yoga for years, but never really gave it a try. Until recently. With the stress of everyday life, I have been turning to yoga to find a way to decompress and unwind. I have found that practicing yoga is a great way to de-stress and get back to a simpler state of mind. Today, I will be sharing some of my best yoga tips for beginners.
Have you heard of all the benefits that yoga can offer the body? Here are just a few of them:
- increased flexibilty
- better muscle tone
- higher energy levels
- improved circulatory health
Yoga Tips for Beginners
These are just a few of the many reasons why practicing yoga should be part of your everyday routine. Not sure where to start? Here are some tips for beginners interested in trying out yoga for the first time:
1. Make space.
Find a designated space in your home to practice yoga. I use the area in the office right next to window. It gets bright light and is a quiet spot in the home. I like to escape to this corner and practice my yoga poses.
2. Invest in a yoga mat.
A yoga mat is an essential tool of the trade. It helps to provide a bit of cushion under the joints. I picked up my mat from a local big box store, but you can also find yoga mats online.
3. Practice deep breathing.
With yoga, breathing is powerful. Learn to breathe deeply from your core. When in a pose, keep breathing until a sense of calm relaxes the body.
4. Build your yoga pose library.
When first starting yoga, some easier poses to try include Mountain Pose, Downward Dog, Bridge Pose, Pigeon Pose and Tree Pose. However, as you get more familiar with the practice, be sure to expand your repertoire and invest in additional books/DVDs that will teach you more advanced moves.
5. Enjoy the moment.
Yoga is all about being mindful in the present moment. When doing the various poses, avoid thinking about the laundry or what you’re having for dinner tonight. Try to focus on your breathing and enjoying the simplicity of the moment.

Omg, so timely. I’m doing yoga now while checking my phone from time to time.lols Those you have listed are all true. Space is very important and as a beginner one should develop his/her own sequence of poses which he/she thinks he/she can maintain by own pace. I love yoga. It relaxes my body and clears my head. I also learned to do headstand after 4mos. I was ecstatic then. But I think the point is to practice it meaning continuously doing it.
I decided that I wanted to try yoga for the first time at a class that opened up not far from my house. The studio was offering classes once a week, and they hadn’t been offering them for long. The week that I decided to try a class, the studio canceled all yoga classes the day before I was going to go! I was completely bummed!
These are wonderful tips! Thank you so much! I have been slowly getting into yoga but sometimes it can be a bit frustrating. I need to change things up a bit.
