DIY Gazing Ball
May 23, 2016
This year is all about the garden for me! I’ve been really focused on sprucing up my outdoor space. I created an indoor living room, repurposed an old set of crib rails into a vertical planter, learned so much about gardening successfully, and so much more. Today, I wanted to share with you all an easy way to create those gorgeous garden gazing balls. They add a beautifully shiny look to any garden and really add a lovely visual interest. However, the prices on some of these gazing balls can be well over $25. I found a way to create the same look for a lot less.

Here’s what you’ll need:
Clear Glass Shade
Mirror Finish Spray Paint
This what my glass shade looked like at the beginning. I found it at The Home Depot for about 5 bucks! Not bad. I liked that it had these vertical lines on it. I figured that would really create a beautiful look once I added the paint.
I placed my shade on a protective drop cloth (a dollar store shower curtain!) outside. I started spraying my glass shade. As with all spray painting project, many thin coats is preferred over one thick coat to prevent drips & runs.
I really love the way it came out. It totally looks like a beautiful gazing ball.
The previous homeowners had left behind this old bird bath, so I decided to fill it with some marble chips and place my new gazing ball in the center. It adds some height & visual interest to my garden!
I’m totally planning on making more of these soon for other spots in my yard!

It’s very pretty, but I think I would use it for bird seed, bur then again, you don’t want bird droppings on it either
Thanks, Carolyn! That’s a cool idea!
