Establishing Healthy Routines with Primo Water

With the back-to-school season here, now is the perfect time to simplify and streamline our routines for smoother mornings & stress-free afternoons.  In fact, this is a great time to establish new lifestyle habits, such as increasing one’s water intake, encouraging physical exercise, and more. Today I’ll be sharing some tips to create new routines for the school year, featuring Primo water.

1. Make it fun to drink water.

If we can make drinking water fun, we will all be more likely to turn to water – rather than sugary drinks – to quench our thirst. However, I don’t want my family drinking water that’s not purified. After all, tap water potentially has so many contaminants in it, including toxic metal salts, hormones, chemicals, microbes, and pesticides. That’s why I made the switch to Primo water!

We recently received the Primo hTRIO Bottom Loading Water Dispenser with Single Serve Coffee K-cup® Machine Built-In and it has revolutionized the way we drink water. To get water for the dispenser, I started by visiting my local Walmart store. I visit Walmart every week anyway for household essentials, such as groceries, paper goods, clothing and more. So, shopping at Walmart is part of my regular routine already. There are two options for getting Primo Water: Exchange Water and Refill Water. Both varieties feature water that has been purified through a water treatment process. However, Exchange Water includes added filtration, minerals and ozonation.

With Exchange Water, you return an empty water bottle and purchase a pre-filled bottle. With Refill Water (there are indoor and outdoor stations,) you refill your current water bottle with Primo Water. Both options are quite affordable. The Refill Station was very easy to use, and my bottle was ready to go in mere minutes. If you see signs for Glacier Water, know that it’s the same company. Also, if you want to convert your Exchange bottle to a Refill bottle, just order a non-spill cap from the Primo website for easier transport.

Once home, getting the water bottle installed into the dispenser system was quick and easy. First, I removed the cap and inserted the probe into the bottle.

Then I slid the water bottle into place and plugged it in. The bottom loading design makes it a breeze to install the water bottle, eliminating the need to lift or flip these heavy bottles. Did you know that each 5-gallon bottle saves 1,100 single-use bottles from the landfill? Wow, that’s an impressive statistic! I love that I can make a positive impact on the planet in such an easy, cost-effective way.

The Primo hTRIO Bottom Loading Water Dispenser makes it possible to brew 6, 8, and 10 oz hot beverages instantly using K-Cup® pods or my own coffee grounds using the refillable cup. In addition to brewed beverages, I can also dispense ice cold water and piping hot water on demand! With Primo water, I can Drink Big. Drink Healthy.

I placed the water dispenser in my home office. I already try to drink plenty of water during the day and I’m a huge fan of hot teas, so this dispenser has been such a convenient addition to my office. I am actually more productive now that I can get my drinks just a few feet away from my desk.

I love that Primo water goes through a multi-step purification process that includes reverse osmosis, filtration and sterilization. What is reverse osmosis? It’s a type of filtration process, in which untreated water flows through a special membrane & filter, leaving behind salt, chemicals, minerals and other impurities. The result is an ultra-purified water that tastes great. The technology behind Primo water’s purification system reduces chlorine / chlorine by-products, bacteria / parasites, heavy metals, trace levels of pharmaceuticals and more. Those are all things none of us want in our drinking water!

I really appreciate that the Primo water dispenser is encouraging my kids to drink more water. Did you know that adding a water dispenser to the home results in families drinking 25% more water? Since we set up this dispenser, I noticed that we all seem to be drinking more water in our household. Also, I recently learned that a well-hydrated brain results in improved concentration, balanced moods and better sleep. If you want to learn more about the importance of staying hydrated, check out this Primo blog post here.

I really love that my kids can easily use the machine by themselves. During the school year, I fill their reusable water bottles with Primo water, and they take those bottles to school. When they are home, they fill their glasses with Primo water themselves. As a mom, I really appreciate the temperature control lock on the hot water, which prevents hot water from dispensing unless a special red button is simultaneously pushed. It’s also possible to completely turn off the hot water function using the switch on the back of the unit. We encourage each other to drink enough water by keeping track of the number of refills we do each day. Sophia is always excited about meeting her water goals!

2. Encourage kids to play outdoors every day.
Kids benefit from regular exercise every day just like adults. Since kids spend much of their time in school sitting at a desk, encourage them to get outdoors after school and run around. The physical exercise is good for both the mind and body.

3. Pursue a passion.
If your kid is interested in collecting cards or mastering gymnastics moves, encourage them to pursue his/her passions. A well-rounded child is more likely to be a happier child. Passions are the things that drive us and give us a true zest for life.

4. Prioritize sleep.
A good night’s sleep is essential for proper functioning of the mind and body. Make sure kids get adequate rest every night by establishing a predictable bedtime routine. Include a relaxing bath, a bedtime story and even some cuddles to encourage a healthy wind-down period.

5. Keep healthy snacks available.
Convenient snacks are always more tempting than ones requiring a lot of work. Avoid the temptation offered by processed snacks or junk food. Make healthy snacks available and convenient. Wash and cut some veggies – store them in individual plastic bags. Place some washed, ready-to-eat fruits in a bowl.

6. Teach calming techniques.
Just like adults, kids can be subject to stress and anxiety. Empower them to overcome these negative feelings by teaching them the simple act of breathing deeply. My 6 year old even learned a few yoga poses in school and likes to practice them at home. It’s never too early to learn healthy mental habits.
