DIY Flying Unicorn Boxtume

Halloween is definitely one of the best times of the year! As a mom, I get very excited about helping my daughters come up with costumes that are fun & festive. This year, we’re partnering with Amazon Prime to make a DIY Flying Unicorn Boxtume! What’s a boxtume? It’s simply a combination of a box and a costume!
Are you an Amazon Prime member? The convenience really cannot be beat! Thanks to the wide variety of products available and the fast, free shipping, products are delivered to your doorstep in no time! As a busy mom that’s always on the go, I appreciate that kind of convenience!
To prepare the box, I first cut off the two smaller flaps on the top of the box and all four flaps on the bottom of the box. I also painted the sides/top of the box with this pink paint. Next I cut out the silhouette of a unicorn head using some extra cardboard.
I then used this silver spray paint on the unicorn silhouette. For the unicorn horn, I folded a piece of paper into the shape of a cone and then wrapped it in a gold glitter paper I had around the house. Oh, and the unicorn eyes were just my handmade creation using paper & markers.
A little hot glue (this is my favorite one) is all it takes for this unicorn head to start taking shape!
I used more hot glue to attach the unicorn head to the front of the box. I also used some purple yarn from my craft stash at home to create a little mane and tail for our unicorn.
How will our unicorn fly without wings? I used some more of the gold glitter paper to add wings, as well as a few hearts, to the side of the box. Some washi tape & stickers on the front add a bit more dimension to our unicorn creature!
Sophia is absolutely thrilled with how this came out! Whatever supplies we didn’t already have at home, we ordered from Amazon.
I love that this project was actually fun to make and she helped me every step of the way. We really make a great team!
Check out this flying unicorn in action! Halloween is going to be a blast this year!
Sophia said this was one of her favorite craft projects ever – and I believe her. Not only was it super fun to make, but we now have this awesomely cool costume thanks to Amazon Prime & a little creativity!
Don’t forget to learn more about the benefits of an Amazon Prime membership today. Do you shop on Amazon often? Would you make a Boxtume for your kids?
Oh gosh, this is the cutest thing I have seen all day. What a fun costume idea this is.
Awww…Your daughter looks sooo happy with her unicome costume. It is adorable and I like that you could basically make it with your child in just a few hours (if that). Happy Halloween!
this is such a great idea- my daughter would love something like this for sure!
What a cute idea! I can see many kids wearing this for Halloween. We always have Amazon boxes here.
This is a super cute idea. I love that you didn’t have to spend a ton of money on a costume that they are going to wear for only an hour or so. I like using homemade costumes or buying something that can double as PJs or something they can wear more than once.
This is such a clever idea. I would love to do something like this with my nieces this weekend.
Unicorns rock and this is such a cute costume idea! I love that you upcycled an Amazon box to pull it off too.
What a fun idea for a costume. My niece is so into unicorn. She has a unicorn collection actually. She’s going to love that idea.
This is a fab idea! I am pretty sure my niece would love this kind of costume. I will show this to her so we can start making one!
That is such a cute costume. I love that you can easily make it from a box. I think DIY costumes are the best.

This looks like such a beautiful and fun idea! I love unicorn and I’m sure other girls, too! Thanks for sharing this DIY boxtume.
Such a cute costume! I especially appreciate ideas like this one because buying a costume can really get expensive. Plus, isn’t it more fun to have a project and say “look, I made this myself” xx
My daughter loves playing with the boxes when they come in. I never thought to make a boxtume out of them!
This is really cute costume . I am not talented as you. I will ask my daughter she want some thing like this. Then I can make it for her.
