10 Ways to Unwind After a Long Day
September 19, 2017This is a sponsored conversation written by me on behalf of Straight Up™ Tea and Albertsons Companies. The opinions and text are all mine.
On those days when it seems like you were on-the-go from morning until night, it’s important to take some time for yourself. Finding ways to unwind and decompress is so important to feel calm. Today, I’ll be sharing some tips on how to de-stress after a long day, as well as why Straight Up™ Tea is my beverage of choice when I’m trying to take some time for myself.
Last week, I picked up a few bottles of Straight Up Tea Sweet from ACME (keep reading to score a BOGO coupon offer). I have always been a big fan of tea. I enjoy tea that’s hot, tea that’s iced, and even tea that’s in the middle. My favorite thing about Straight Up Tea is it’s authentic true tea taste – it seriously tastes like it was just freshly brewed!
10 Ways to Unwind After a Long Day
1. Pamper myself!
On those days, when I feel like I am doing everything for everyone, I like to take some time in the evenings for myself. One way I like to focus on my “me” time is by pampering myself. Sometimes that means I’ll do a hot oil treatment (plain coconut oil works well for this). Sometimes that means I’ll give myself a homemade facial, including steps for steaming, exfoliating, moisturizing, and more. Sometimes that means I’ll give myself a manicure. A freshly-polished set of nails always gives me such confidence!
2. Exercise!
When I had a stressful day and I have extra adrenaline to burn, nothing is better than doing some cardio exercise. If the weather is cooperative, I’ll often go for a walk around the neighborhood. There’s something remarkably relaxing about being in the open air and simply walking. However, when it’s too cold (or too hot) to be outdoors, I’ll hop onto our treadmill and burn some calories. With some Straight Up Tea by my side, working out is downright fun. I love that Straight Up Tea is made with all natural ingredients!
3. Color!
Adult coloring books are totally a thing right now- and for good reason. If your mind won’t shut off and you need to decompress, whip out an adult coloring book and get to work. The act of coloring the page is incredibly fun and calming. It’s so easy to forget about your worries when you’re focused on making that page spectacular! By the way, there’s no artificial anything in Straight Up Tea, so it’s a tea that I feel good about drinking!
4. Take a bath!
Taking a bath to relax is a very popular way to wind down. I like to simply load my oil diffuser with a relaxing scent like lavender and slip into the bath. I will also add some lavender bath salts right to the water. The warm water is perfect for relaxing the muscles and transporting you to a calm place!
5. Read a magazine!
We all have our favorite magazines. I subscribe to a few that get delivered right to my home. So when I get a moment to myself, I head to my favorite spot by the front window with a magazine and a great drink, like Straight Up Tea. Flipping through the pages of my fave magazine is an easy way to do something for myself.
6. Partake in retail therapy!
Sometimes a little retail therapy can go a long way in boosting one’s mood. With two young kids at home, I don’t go shopping in stores in the evening, but the Internet still allows me to shop from the comfort of home. Browsing and clicking my way through my favorite online retailers, paired along with the authentic tea taste of Straight Up Tea, are the makings of a great evening for me.
7. Play with the kids!
There’s nothing like seeing the innocence and excitement of little kids to help decompress. How can I be worried about that home renovation when I’m sitting with my kids & designing a princess carriage out of play dough? The answer is…I can’t. When I need to escape from something stressful, I always sit down with the kiddos and get some play time in!
8. Get lost in a book!
A book is always a wonderful way to change one’s perspective and relax. While my husband prefers novels, I prefer non-fiction books, such as business, health, or investing books. Either way, grab your favorite hardcover and get lost in the pages. I love to take my book to my gazebo out in the garden. The sound of the chirping birds and trickling water from our fountain gives me a sense of peace. With my Straight Up Tea, and a “Straight-up” personality to match, I’m all set for a lovely afternoon.
9. Do yoga!
Yoga is definitely a fabulous way to get the mind and body in alignment. While I am no expert yogi, I own a yoga mat and try to practice a few times per week. And it does take practice! Start slowly (search for yoga videos online to get started) and build from there.
10. Light candles!
Even when I can’t find the time to read a book or practice yoga, candles are always a guaranteed way to calm my mind. There’s something about the beautiful flickering light and the lovely scents that gives me a sense of calm.
I hope these tips have inspired you to find ways to decompress after a long day. Look for Straight Up Tea at your local ACME or Albertsons Companies stores. By the way, keep an eye out for five different varieties available: Sweet, Unsweetened, Sorta Sweet, Rooibos and Honey Green. Also, don’t forget to snag this coupon offer for BOGO free Straight Up Tea!

Exercise, coloring, a bath? These sound right up my alley! I have also been more deliberate to play outside with the kids after school and soak up these last few weeks of summer weather.
I love these tips. Especially number one. I love to pamper myself, and need to do it more often! I’ve been slacking lately! Thanks for sharing.
I live in the south. We like tea here. Sweet tea. I haven’t always lived in the south, so sometimes I like it straight up, nothing added. I’m daring like that! When it comes to unwinding, I’m a true crime podcast girl. I imagine this tea pairs well with true crime–I might like the duo. Yeah. I think I should try it. Thanks for the other tips for relaxing. I need a lot of that in my life right now.
These are really amazing ways to unwind! I love getting lost in a book, sometimes it’s a light-hearted book other times it’s a true crime book. I want a jetted bathtub to take a bubble bath in, have the candles light and just close my eyes.
I am doing some of this to unwind after a long day. I also do a walk in the par and sometimes I do shopping! Taking a bath with lighting candles with essential oils is one way for me to relax as well. Soaking for an hour with a good music.
I have a few favorite ways to unwind after a long day. I play a couple of my favorite games on my iPad, then either read or binge on a favorite show. I just finished re-watching Grimm, just in time for fall TV shows to begin. Iced-tea is definitely one of my favorite “unwinding” drinks, and I love Straight-Up Snapple.
I love tea, but I’ve never tried Snapple tea. I love how you incorporated it into your whole day. It’s so important to unwind and relax from time to time. We go, go, go and if we forget to relax we will end up exhausted and burnt out!
Now you’ve made me want to grab this tea! lol! I haven’t grabbed and colored in a coloring book since I was a little girl! I don’t think I even know how to color in the lines lol!
These “me” times are so important. You just have to do it, because at the end of the day, you can do so much for everyone but if YOU’RE not ok, all these people who depend on you won’t be either. So you have to take care of you. Great tips!
