DIY Rolling Organizer Basket for Throws
February 14, 2016During the Winter, I have a thing for throws! I have a few throws in every room. There’s nothing better than cuddling up on the sofa with a nice, comfy throw and watching my favorite show (hello, Bravo!) or reading my favorite magazine (Real Simple)! However, sometimes the throws can get unruly and I need to corral them together!
So I set out to design something that would roll so I can easily move it around the house. I picked up everything for this project very affordably! So this project didn’t cost that much at all!
The large white wire basket was picked up from Ikea for only $2! What a bargain!
I didn’t like the white color, so I decided to spray paint it with an Oil Rubbed Bronze color!
Two coats later, this is what it looked like! Much better…
I got a set of 4 small caster wheels from the home improvement store. I simply attached them to the bottom of the basket with some construction adhesive.
I attached a small burlap ribbon, because well, burlap makes me happy and has a wonderfully rustic feel. I also made a little sign using a piece of wood and some scrapbook stickers!
This was such a fun, easy craft! I really enjoyed putting this project together.
It has totally made our space so much more clean and organized! I have a dedicated spot for all my throws now! Also, this rolling basket would be perfect for kids’ books, toys, pillows,… anything that needs an organizational boost!

Wow, boy did that work out great for you. If you get tired of using for throws can use for many other items. Great idea gluing on the casters. Surprised it worked but glad for you it did. My hubs would have had to put a board on bottom to attach the casters to. When I get something like that he tends to take over to do it his way. I’ve learned to let it go. Being together 24/7 pretty much have learned to pick my battles. He usually gets his way anyhow.
Hope you had great Valentines Day
Thanks JaneEllen! Yes I debated whether I should attach a wooden board to the bottom as that would definitely provide more stability. For now, it’s working fine for me though. Thanks for your comment!

Love what you did. I have a big basket that I want to put it on wheels, but I need it taller. What would you suggest I use?? Thanks!!
You could buy table legs (of various lengths) from the home improvement store. You could attach the legs to your basket with construction adhesive and then attach the wheels to the legs. Hope this works for you. Let me know how it goes! Good luck.
Thank you so much !! That’s why your the Engineer Mommy!!
Be sure to let me know how it works out for you if you try this project! 🙂 Have a fabulous day!
Cute idea. Can you tell us the size of that basket ? Before I drive all the way to IKEA I’d like to make sure the size would work for me. Thanks !
Hey Winnie! Thanks for your comment! I just checked and it’s the ANTONIUS wire basket from Ikea! The dimensions are as follows:
Width: 16″
Depth: 20″
Height: 5″
Hope this helps! Good luck! And let me know how it goes if you try this project!
Thanks !
Forgive my stupidity but what is construction adhesive? Adding wheels to a basket is exactly the fix I need for a couple of issues but I’m stumped on the adhesive. Thanks so much!
No, it’s a perfectly reasonable question! Construction adhesive is simple high-strength glue. At the store, you can look for a product called “Liquid Nails” or even “Gorilla Glue”. Thanks for your question! Hope you visit again in the future! 🙂
