The Three Best Cozy Drinks for a Cold Night
October 6, 2011One of my favorite parts of fall and winter is the ability to snuggle up under a warm throw and sip something warm & sweet. Now that it is getting cooler outside, here are my three absolute favorite warm, tasty drinks.
Mexican Spiced Hot Chocolate: (2 servings)
- 1 cup milk
- 1 oz bittersweet chocolate
- 2 tsp sugar
- Pinch salt
- Pinch cayenne pepper
- 2 cinnamon sticks
With a knife, break up the chocolate into small pieces. Combine the chocolate, milk, sugar, salt, and cayenne pepper in a small saucepan. Heat until the chocolate is metled. Froth the chocolate milk with a mini whisk. Pour into large mugs and use a cinnamon stick as a stirrer.
Best Hot Mocha (2 servings)
- 2 cups freshly brewed coffee
- 2 tbsp sugar
- 2 tbsp unsweetened cocoa powder
- 1 tbsp coffee-flavored liquer (optional)
- whipped cream
- Pinch of cinnamon
Combine all the ingredients except the liquer in a saucepan and heat well while stirring. Do not boil the coffee mixture. Remove from heat and add the liquer. Top with whipped cream and cinnamon.
Honestly, this drink does not need the liquer at all, and I often will make this drink without the alcohol because I love the taste of coffee and chocolate together. However, if you want to jazz up this drink for a party or special occassion, the liquer will definitely do the trick!
Amish-Style Spiced Mulled Cider (2 servings)
- 2 cups apple cider
- 1 cinnamon stick
- 1 whole allspice berry
- 1 whole clove
- 1 orange, sliced thinly
Place all the ingredients in a small pot and simmer the mixture. Divide among all the mugs and serve piping hot!
It’s getting cooler outside these days, and I’m so excited to start whipping up these recipes. Share your favorite cold-weather drink in the comments below.
