Dollar Store Christmas: Our Mantel Display
November 26, 2011This is the third post in our Dollar Store Christmas series. By mixing cheap dollar store finds with more sophisticated items, you can achieve an elegant Christmas look for a fraction of the price!
We had to decorate our mantel. It’s not a mantel in the traditional sense, because it’s not on top of a fireplace, but it’s the see-through cutout from our living room to our kitchen. It’s where we hang our stockings… it’s our honorary mantel!
It was so easy to deck it out for Christmas! We started with the cheap dollar store plain, green garland. We wrapped two strings of the garland around each other to thicken it a bit and make it look more substantial. We then tied beautiful ribbon (also from the dollar store) around it.
We found beautiful Christmas picks and oversized flowers from the dollar store. The picks were 2 / $1 and the oversized flowers were $1.
We flanked the garland display with these elegant nutcrackers we picked up at Kohl’s. With some coupons and a sale, we got these for about $12 apiece.
I also found this adorable, frosty owl from a big box store. By gluing it to the top of a Fir-scented Yankee Candle, I created a cute customized candle to add to my display.
Below is a picture of how it all came together. I love how it looks!

You created a beautiful mantel! I like the idea of mixing in Dollar Store pieces with nicer pieces to get a complete look without breaking the bank. I am hoping to create a faux mantel in our living room soon so I can do this during the next holiday season.
