Sand Play Dough Recipe
August 1, 2015My kids absolutely love play dough. The only thing they like more than actually playing with it is probably helping me to make it. There are so many recipes for making play dough, and we’ve done a few of them: we’ve made Super Silky Marbled Play Dough, DIY Glittered Play Dough, & Speckled Edible Play Dough.
Today’s play dough recipe features sand, because well, we are outdoor pretty much every day in the Summer. We have this big ol’ sandbox in the backyard and the girls love playing in it all the time. They’d stay out there all.day.long if I let them! I figured, “What a wonderful way to bring the sandbox indoors” (especially when it’s rainy outside)! So here is the recipe I used for making a fun, moldable Sand Play Dough. This play dough really comes together wonderfully and has a wonderful texture to it, making it a fabulous sensory material for the little ones!
Here is the recipe!
Sand Play Dough Recipe
Ingredients:
2 cups flour
2 tbsp. olive oil
1.5 cups sand
1/2 cup salt
about 1 cup warm water
Directions:
1. Into a small plastic bowl, add the flour, oil, salt and warm water. Try to combine, but don’t worry about making it smooth just yet.
2. Add the sand and start working it through the mixture until it is free of clumps.
3. Let the little ones start playing. It comes together beautifully and can be broken apart into pieces or stay together to mold into shapes.
It’s a whole lot of fun to add things you might find on a beach. I added some shells, glass beads and star fish.
So pretty! And the kids had an absolute blast playing with this play dough!! Hope you try this one and love it, too!
