Transform dollar store foam pumpkins into custom metallic pumpkins DIY

October 17, 2012 0 By EngineerMommy

Walking through the dollar store the other day, I came across these adorable bright orange pumpkins. I had never realized they sold foam pumpkins there before. My mind started going through all the possibilities of the various crafts I could do with these babies. I decided I wanted something with an elegant feel to it – well, as elegant as pumpkins could be! I think it’s a pretty great transformation!

Anyway, I realized I had bought these metallic paints at Walmart last week and had no idea what I would do with them. So I figured I would try painting them in metallic colors – two in a pearlescent gold and one in a graphite silver. They started out so boring.

I painted the bottoms of the pumpkins first. Two coats for the bottom half of each pumpkin. Then, after a couple hours, it was all dry so I started to paint the tops of each pumpkin. Two coats for the top half of each pumpkin.

When all the painting was done, I used silvertone push pins to spell out the word “BOO.” I held the pumpkins near each other as I was tracing the outline of each letter, so that the letters would look like they go together. You know, same size and dimensions.

I love the way this came out!
