I’ve been meaning to up my game in the photo department for a while now, and it’s so easy to build your own DIY Light Box using supplies and materials you probably already have in the house. I’ve seen them all over Pinterest for the longest time now and I figured I was high time to try my own hand at one. I mean, photographing food and small crafts is hard enough, but if I can fix some of the lighting issues, then I’m all for it. I’m usually taking pictures of my stuff at all times of the day (and night, sometimes) and so I can’t guarantee that the sun will be at optimal position for my shots. Who can guarantee that, anyway? Moving on…

So my fancy-shmancy light box starts out with a very complicated object (NOT!). I start with an empty diaper box! 😉 I cut a few holes, place some white paper in strategic places and voila! Easy DIY Light Box for free- cuz I had everything on hand already. I love those projects that come together so cheaply! Ok, who are we kidding? Projects that wind up being free, I should have said!

Oh, by the way, I may or may not just had a cup of decaf coffee, with chocolate milk inside. How have I not tried that before? I had bought chocolate milk from the supermarket earlier today (something I don’t usually do), and when I was getting ready to dress my coffee (is that a term? or am I the only one that says that?), I realized instead of adding just plain milk, wouldn’t my coffee taste that much better with chocolate milk?! I think so! And it was- absolutely delicious FYI! Let’s get to the tutorial now, shall we?

DIY Light Box Tutorial

Supplies:

• old diaper box
• scissors or utility knife
• roll of white craft paper
• sheet of white tissue paper
• white paint and brush

Directions:

First start by cutting a rectangle out of the top of the box, as shown in the picture below.

Cut out two windows in the sides; see picture below.

Cover the two windows with a sheet of tissue paper. And place a sheet of the white craft paper along the back wall and draping around the bottom. Oh and paint the inside of the box white. See the picture.

Also place a sheet of tissue paper along the top cut-out. This will soften the final photographed images. Place a bright light on the top. And you’re all set. So simple!

I’m loving how easy this project was. And I notice that my images are brighter and more professional-looking when I use this box. Honest Confession: I don’t always use this box. Sometimes motherhood (read: laziness) gets in the way! Happy photographing, friends!
