Slow Cooker Barbecue Chicken Sandwich
November 29, 2014 0 By EngineerMommyThis Slow Cooker Barbecue Chicken Sandwich is so delicious and so easy to make, I’m sure you’ll love it as much as I do. The chicken is shredded and pulled apart and drenched in a sweet barbecue sauce. Topped with a slice of cheese and piled high on a bun, this Barbecue Chicken Sandwich is a delicious and flavorful meal! The best part? You can make this in your slow cooker!
I love my slow cooker recipes! It makes life so much easier. I can throw in a bunch of ingredients, some sauce or liquid, and set the timer. Then, I can go about my day running errands, playing with the kids, blogging, etc. and then in the evening, when it’s time for dinner, I simply open my slow cooker and there is a nice, warm dinner. Waiting for me! Perfect!
My kids absolutely loved this meal. They are both picky eaters and are very finicky when it comes to trying new foods. And that’s putting it mildly! But they truly LOVED the sweet bbq flavor of this chicken.
If you are looking for alternative ways to serve and eat this chicken, you can bypass the hamburger bun altogether. Simply serve a nice servingĀ of this shredded bbq chicken alongside classic side dishes, like mashed potatoes & baked beans. If you are watching your carb intake, you can serve this shreddded bbq chicken on top of a bed of lettuce. Zero carbs and zero guilt!
Let’s get to the recipe now, shall we?
Slow Cooker Barbecue Chicken Sandwich
Ingredients:
- 3 boneless, skinless chicken breasts
- 1 cup barbecue sauce
- 1/4 cup honey or agave nectar
- 2 tbsp. brown sugar
Directions:
Place the chicken breasts at the bottom of the slow cooker.
In a small mixing bowl, combine the sauce, agave nectar and brown sugar. Pour over the top of the chicken.
Set the timer on the slow cooker on high for 4 hours or low for 6 hours.
When the time is complete, take the chicken out, and use two forks to shred (pull apart) the chicken breasts. Top with the rest of the sauce.
Serve piled high on hamburger buns. Place a slice of sharp cheddar cheese on top. I also like to use a few banana peppers for their ability to cut through the richness of the barbecue flavor. I also serve alongside a dill pickle. Enjoy!
