Do you ever find yourself trying to jot down a number near the phone but you can’t find the pen or paper? Or maybe you’re about to leave the house and can’t find your gloves or hats?

The tips I will share with you today feature Centers of Household Activities. These are ways to keep your home tidy and organized. By corralling all the items you need when you are cleaning, or when you are by the telephone, or when you are handling paper, you will streamline your day’s activities. You will feel more organized and you will be more efficient at getting things done around the house.

Here are some common centers of household activities, along with the items that should be contained within these centers. Of course, if you never need one of those items, then simply omit that from the list.

These activity centers for your home can help you streamline your day and help organize your space in an efficient and logical manner.

Telephone: Phone directory, address book, family calendar, message pad, pens, folder with take-out menus

Outdoor clothing: coats, hats, gloves, scarves, umbrellas, boots

Cleaning products: mops, broom, vacuum, cleaning tote with products/tools, cleaning cloths / sponges, etc.

Paper handling: desk, telephone, computer, filing box, pens, paper, checkbook

Entertainment: television, remote controls, TV schedule, seating, snacks, snack trays, placemats

Mending: sewing machine, iron, ironing board, fabrics, supplies, sewing tools

Mail center: boxes, postage stamps, gift wrap, ribbon, gift cards, scissors, tape, pens, marking pen
