Sink Cleaning 101: How to Clean Every Type of Sink

Copper Sinks & Brass Sinks:

To  clean copper and brass sinks / tubs, all you need is salt, water and lemon juice. Using a soft cloth, rub down the copper sink with a mixture of salt and water. Add lemon juice as you clean. The surface should transform before your eyes and start to gleam. After cleaning is complete, rinse with cold water and dry completely. If you don’t dry it completely immediately afterward, you will have darkened spots where the water was sitting.

Acrylic Sinks & Porcelain Enamel Sinks:

The only ingredients you need to clean acrylic and porcelain enamel sinks are dishwashing liquid and baking soda. Form a thick paste between these ingredients and wipe the surface with a soft cloth or rag. If your sinks have a yellowish hue, simply soak some towels in vinegar and let the soaked towels sit on the yellowed areas. This will lighten the yellow spots and bring your sinks back to their original shine!

Stainless Steel Sinks:

Stainless steel sinks are very common in kitchens and they tend to get a lot of heavy-duty use. To clean a stainless steel sink, use a sponge and a squirt of dishwashing liquid to rub down the surface. Finish with a round of glass cleaner to remove excess soap residue and to avoid streakiness. Finally, towel-dry to prevent water marks.

Keep in mind that although the focus of this article was on kitchen sinks, the cleaning solutions / methods apply just as well to bathroom or utility sinks.
