Easy Tips for Creating Art with Kids
March 5, 2018This post is sponsored by Tampico. All opinions are mine alone.
My children love to create art. Whether they are wielding markers, colored pencils or paint brushes, they love to express their creativity on paper. Today I will be sharing some tips I’ve learned over the years for successfully creating art with kids. From setting up the supplies ahead of time to encouraging out-of-the-box thinking, keep reading for all my top tips.
1. Set up everything ahead of time!
When it comes to any project involving kids, I am a big believer in setting up everything ahead of time. Take some time to gather all the supplies you’ll need before you call the kids to the table. Here’s what we like to use:
- three 8″x10″ canvases
- acrylic paint
- disposable plates
- paint brushes
- paper plates for the paint
- cups with water for cleaning the brush
2. Get outdoors!
This is a super simple idea but it’s incredibly effective. We have painted together in the house many times but there is something special about taking the fun outdoors, especially when the weather is warm. The kids were thrilled when I told them we would be creating our masterpieces outside on the patio. This year, try to spend more time with the kids outdoors. All that fresh air is good for the soul!
3. Create some simple rules!
While painting without rules can be fun, creating some easy guidelines adds a fun challenge to the activity. It also provides a sense of structure. The “rule” we created on this day is to use only four colors: yellow, orange, blue and green. I was inspired by the color palette on a Tampico bottle. Tampico is the Imaginatively Curious juice drink that my whole family loves. In fact, after over 20 years of bringing fun fruity flavors to families throughout the world, Tampico is revealing a brand new look to celebrate its Imaginatively Curious nature! How exciting! This is one of our favorite beverages of all time and creating artwork that visually complements the bottle was a super fun challenge.
4. Offer delicious refreshment!
Since the bottle inspired our color palette and since we all love the delicious taste & refreshment of Tampico Citrus Punch, we all enjoyed Tampico as we worked on our art. I poured a few glasses for the girls and myself during our painting session. During the spring and summer, it’s essential to stay hydrated, particularly if spending a lot of time outdoors. Tampico offers the perfect balance between sweet and tart. In fact, it is irresistible!
The new look of Tampico will be revealed on March 20 – be sure to stay tuned to my Twitter channel to be the first to see the new look!
Experience a refreshing glass of Tampico and celebrate the bright colors & delicious taste in each bottle.
5. Promote curious imagination!
Did you know that Tampico is all about curious imagination? In fact, the process of creating artwork promotes a soaring imagination, too. It’s no wonder kids love expressing themselves artistically. Here are our finished pieces. My flower is on the far right. My 4-year-old created the flower on the far left – she said the flower is sitting on some sand (orange mound) on the beach. How creative! My 6-year-old created the artwork in the middle. She said it’s a depiction of colorful fireworks with her initial right in the middle.
6. Have fun with it!
For kids, the best part of creating art is the process – not the final result. Have fun with the activity and encourage them to enjoy themselves. Avoid the temptation to put too much focus on the finished product. Let their imaginations soar and enjoy the bonding time!
We really had a blast creating our masterpieces.
I love how all three of our pieces complement the bottle of Tampico!

I divide the choir up into teams each term randomly to serve two purposes: a) to ensure people mix and get to know each other b) each team takes turns to provide refreshments/set up/down, welcome on the door. This has nothing to do with the singing,, although occasionally we”ll do rounds with each team on a part. I find this works well to integrate new members. customer essay

Ahhh thanks so much Nancy. We just made 3 dozen eggs for Easter this way and they were perfection. I think eggs alone are a great reason to buy an electric pressure cooker! That’s awesome that you have trained your husband to do the job.
