For me, maintaining a clean house always starts in the kitchen. From taking care of dishes to wiping down counters, there seems to be an endless series of cleaning tasks that need to get done every day in the kitchen. However, with the right tools, cleaning can be quick & easy. Find out how the ocelo™ No-Scratch Scrub Sponges help me take care of my kitchen conveniently and effectively! Today, I’ll also be sharing a tutorial for making a DIY Cleaning Caddy from an old shoe box, along with the recipe for a homemade all-purpose cleaning spray! With the right tools and the right mindset, getting the kitchen in top shape can be downright fun!
DIY Cleaning Caddy
When it comes to cleaning, products that are bright and colorful make it more fun! I Love the ocelo™ scrub sponges’ vibrant, colorful designs! Did you know that ocelo™ No-Scratch Scrub Sponges can clean delicate surfaces without scratching? I love that I can use them on glassware, china, and stainless steel in the kitchen. They can also be used to clean delicate bathroom surfaces without scratching! To hold my sponges, I made a simple DIY Cleaning Caddy.
Let’s start with the tutorial for the Cleaning Caddy. Here’s what you’ll need:
- plain shoe box
- decorative scrapbook paper
- scissors
- glue runner
Start by measuring the faces of the shoe box and cut scrapbook paper into 4 pieces that fit the individual faces of the shoe box.
Using the glue runner, adhere each of the paper pieces to the sides of the shoe box. Don’t worry if the edges are not perfect- we’ll be taking care of that in the next step!
To clean up the edges a bit, grab a roll of complementary washi tape. Wrap it along each of the edges of the shoe box.
To make this box a bit more durable, use a brush to apply some decoupage medium to the exterior and interior of the box. Let it fully dry.
On one end of the box, I used my alphabet stamps and a clear label sticker to identify the contents of the box: “sponges”.
On another side of the box, I used some cute decorative stickers to spell the word “sparkle”!
Now, let’s move on to the homemade all-purpose cleaning spray! To make this spray, I used equal parts of white vinegar and water. I also added a bit of lavender extract.
You can adjust the amount of lavender extract that you add to the spray bottle to suit your preferences. I went with about 8 drops.
The perfect complement to my all-purpose cleaning spray is a set of the ocelo™ No-Scratch Scrub Sponges. These sponges are ideal for cleaning non-stick cookware, glassware, china, and bathroom tile.
My cleaning caddy is all set and ready to tackle all sorts of cleaning jobs around the house.
BY the way, did you see the gorgeous patterns on these sponges? Truly beautiful! These fresh, colorful designs actually make cleaning fun! They’re available in 3 ($3.89) and 6 pack ($5.57) options at Target. I love the pineapple pattern!
With these ocelo brand sponges, cleaning the kitchen & bathroom is a task that I can completely quickly now.
There are so many different uses for these sponges. I use them to wipe down the cabinets! It’s amazing how much grime can collect on the cabinet doors over time.
Additionally, I use these sponges to wipe the back splash behind the stove. Various splatters from cooking definitely take a toll on those tiles, but it’s nothing that these sponges can’t quickly handle.
After a dinner of pasta & tomato sauce, taking care of the dishes can get time-consuming, but these sponges quickly bring our plates back to like-new condition!
These sponges are no-scratch sponges, so I can confidently use them to clean my expensive nonstick pots & pan. Look at the BEFORE & AFTER on this pan after frying some zucchini! Pretty impressive, I think!

That is such a neat idea for the cleaning caddy to hold your sponges. It’s super easy but super cute. I can see myself making a bunch of these to hold things I need! #client
Thanks, Michelle! I love being able to repurpose something like a shoe box that I would otherwise throw away.
Ok.. I’ll admit at first I was nervous about using a cardboard box for something as variable as cleaning supplies. I was curious how you would make that work and not disappointed! Thanks for including the details on the natural cleaner, too. I love those safer methods!
Thanks, Rachel, for your sweet comment!

Such a cute idea to keep under the sink looking nice, decorate shoeboxes. We go through sponges like crazy in our house since we don’t have a dishwasher. These sponges are actually cute to look at too.
This is a cute DIY project. I would get my kids to help and create their own. That way no one is complaining someone took something from the other.
