How to Update an Outdoor Playhouse

When we purchased our current house, the former owners left behind a Little Tikes playhouse! It was old and faded, but I knew it could be easily updated. I knew we would be spending a lot of time in our yard, so I figured the kids would get some use out of this playhouse! Sure, the paint was a little faded, but it was in decent condition! We kept it the way it was for about a year, and then I decided to update it!

Here’s what it looked like originally!

Not bad, but a little blah!

So I popped off all the windows, and spray painted them with a bright red spray paint! Make sure the paint is suitable for outdoor use and is suitable for plastic. I also like this paint and this paint! Check out the picture below… the windows on the left are unpainted and the windows on the right are painted! Much better, right?

I did the same thing with the door: popped it off and spray painted it. This time, I used this green spray paint!

I also spray painted the roof with a blue paint! This thing has been outdoors for almost 6 months now and still looks fabulous! I really love the way it came out! To make it feel even more like a house, I added a small white picket fence (I used garden edging like this!) I also added a little dog statue, a planter and a few pinwheels.

To give the windows a bit more definition, I also painted some white trim above and below the red shutters! I think it really helps spruce up the windows, don’t you think?

My daughter loves to take her little adirondack chair out there and sit next to her house! This was a fun project and my kids get plenty of use out of it!

Eventually, we added a little vase with flowers inside the house, a few more pinwheels and these painted stone bugs by the door! Like many things in my yard, this project is ever-evolving!

So what do you think? Would you update a faded playhouse with spray paint?

Here’s a pinnable image if you’d like to save this project!
