Now that the holiday season is in full swing, many of us are running around from morning until night, preparing meals, shopping for gifts and gearing up for parties. Also, consider that many of us sit for eight hours a day working at the computer… and it’s no wonder that so many Americans are stressed out on a daily basis. Today I’ll be sharing five reasons to add massage to your weekly routine, as well as discussing The History and Science Behind Massage.
Did you know that massage is one of the oldest forms of healing and has been practiced in ancient cultures throughout the world? In fact, the earliest form of massage originated in India around 3000 BC. It was known as Ayurveda, which translates to “the science of life” in Sanskirt. Ayurveda is the holistic practice of medicine that balances the mind, body and spirit through traditional techniques. When it comes to written records of massage, the earliest forms were found in Egypt and China. Back in 2500 BC, paintings on tombs were found that showed individuals being kneaded by other individuals. It is for this reason that Egyptians are thought to have created reflexology. In China, there have been medical texts from 2700 BC that outline the benefits of massage. Indeed massage dates back many, many centuries and The History and Science Behind Massage is quite fascinating.

These are all good reasons to go and get a massage. I had one once and it felt wonderful. Just made me feel good and relaxed.
There is nothing quite like a good massage is there, both relaxing and it can really help to rinse out those sore spots as well.
May I add #6. Because it feels awesome! I love how I feel after a massage, and these are great reasons.
One of these would make some of the benefits of a relaxing massage readily available at home! This sounds like a great idea.
I do want a massage. My poor muscles are aching. Especially today, when I brought in all the Christmas stuff from the garage.
I never realized the massages were linked to a good night’s rest but it makes so much sense! I really want to get one now.
I recently got a massage and was blown away by how much better I felt afterward. I wish I could do it daily!
I haven’t had one in years! I would love to have a reflexology session sometime soon, but a chair massager would be nice too.
What I would give to be someone who can get a massage! For most people I think this should be standard care even. For me though, with a chronic pain condition, I can’t deal with being touched much at all. Sometimes hugs are too much even from my kids. Existing is painful. People often suggest message to relieve pain but don’t understand that sometimes the pain is too back to even be touched. I sometimes have to remind my dear husband to only very lightly touch me and we have been together so so long, asking someone I don’t know to touch the 10% of my body that doesn’t hurt at a given moment sounds scary as heck when they are used to pressing into people. -shiver-
My daughter got her certification as a Neuromuscular Massage Therapist when she got out of high school. Her focus was to help those that had injury or needed healing not relaxation. She came to find one is just as important as the other.
I have read about Ayurveda before but I haven’t known anyone who is into it nowadays. I think I would need to spend about half an hour every other day in a SoCozi massage chair to destress.
Everyone of us in the family loves getting massages. I think I would need to spend about half an hour every other day in a SoCozi massage chair to destress.
I just got a full body massage yesterday and it was really good! I’m glad to know the benefits of it.
It’s so cool that massages can actually help aid with fatigue. I’ve been so tired recently, that I’m a bit worried I may be ill. I’ve also been quite stressed, so I’ll have to give getting a massage a try. Thanks for sharing the benefits of getting a massage.
Massage is good way to relax your body and your soul too. I always take a sauna first and then get a massage every Friday. Take away all your aches. Feel so cool!
You don’t have to convince me more, you got me at the word “massage” mentioned in the title. I love going for massages, they are the perfect way to relax your body and mind, and feel some relief in the end of a very busy week. I even used to work for a company that had a masseuse hired full time, for everyone in the company. It was the best experience ever.
As a mom of two, the get better sleep reason was all I needed to be sold over. After reading your article, I went for my first massage therapy ever. And you were correct; the session relaxed my mind and body so much that I slept like a log that night.
