6 Reasons to Maintain Your Furnace

The furnace is one of those appliances that we take for granted until it stops working. We rely on our furnace to keep your home toasty-warm. We rely on it to create a comfortable indoor atmosphere during holiday celebrations. We rely on it every single day during winter, yet we rarely think about it. Find out why annual maintenance of your furnace is essential.
6 Reasons to Maintain Your Furnace
1. Energy Efficiency!
When the furnace and its filters are kept clean and in top operating order, it takes less work to heat the house to a set indoor temperature. Less work means less energy usage. This is because clogged air filters reduce the heater’s ability to draw air from the outside, heat it, and eventually push it through your indoor vents. That means it takes a longer time (and more energy) for the furnace to do its job.
2. Savings!
If the furnace uses less energy, it will be less expensive to operate it every month. Regardless if the home features a gas or electric heating system, saving energy is crucial anyway. Annual furnace maintenance saves money and it also helps to make a positive impact on the planet.
3. Early Detection of Problems!
Getting a professional to inspect the furnace every fall is a good idea. He will isolate any potential problems that will inhibit the furnace’s ability to do its job. Each component of the system will be inspected and cleaned, if necessary. Gas lines, electrical wiring, and the ventilation system will also be checked for issues.
4. Longevity!
We give our car regular oil changes and tune-ups to keep it running smoothly for a long time. Doing the same for our furnace is a good idea, so regular cleaning & replacement of damaged parts gives the furnace the best chance at a long life. That means you will be able to keep more money in your pocket over the long run.
5. Satisfying the Warranty!
Many furnace warranties have a stipulation that homeowners must schedule annual maintenance. In fact, in some cases, maintenance must be done bi-annually. If the homeowner fails to follow this simple step, it may potentially void the warranty. Check your individual warranty terms to ensure compliance.
6. Safety!
A faulty furnace could release dangerous gases (carbon monoxide, for example) into the air, which could potentially be lethal for anyone in the home. A furnace that has malfunctioned could also catch on fire, costing hundreds or thousands of dollars in damages. Performing regular maintenance is a smart way of ensuring that any hidden dangers are caught before they could cause damage.
I hope these reasons have inspired you to get your furnace inspected this year. Head into winter knowing that your house will be warm and your family will be safe. By getting regular maintenance on your furnace, you can ensure that it will run at peak efficiency throughout the season.

I have often heard that people need to do this; however, I have never done it. This may be the year that we finally do what’s best.
These are all great reasons to maintain your furnace. I leave all that to my husband!
Very very good info to know. We don’t have a home right now, still renting an apartment but saving up for home purchasing next (2018) year. So that’s why I agree on me at least having these details about the furnace (for my future reference). Thanks for sharing girl!!! YOU ROCK.
We’re so reliant on our furnace during the winter season that I can’t imagine what would happen if it suddenly broke down. I feel like this is one thing we should really try and maintain as much as possible since constant use can wear it out faster than we might think. I’ll remember to ask for help from a furnace expert so we can find a great way to manage this in the long run.
