My recipe for the “Bring Your Best Bowl” promotion was inspired by many visits as a young child with my parents to Middle Eastern restaurants! There were several restaurants that come to mind, but the food was always the same (and so, so delicious). We usually enjoyed some hummus as our appetizer. As main courses, I remember so many delicious falafels, shish kabobs, chicken shawarmas, and so much more! And then the desserts… oh, the desserts were divine! Some of my favorite desserts of all time involved many of the ingredients that I incorporated in my Exotic Oatmeal: chopped pistachios, chopped dates, honey and some rose water. In case you’ve never heard of it, rose water is a water made by steeping rose petals and is used to flavor desserts! When using rose water for desserts, please remember that a little goes a long way. Don’t add too much or it will overpower your dish!
Here’s my recipe for Exotic Breakfast Oatmeal!
- 1/2 cup Quaker® Standard Oatmeal Old Fashioned
- 1 cup water
- 1/4 cup chopped dates
- 2 tbsp. chopped pistachios
- 1 tbsp. honey
- 1/2 tsp. rose water
- 1. Boil water.
- 2. Add the Quaker® Standard Oatmeal to the water. Cook for 5 minutes, stirring occasionally.
- 3. Add about half of the remaining ingredients to the oatmeal in the pot. Stir together.
- 4. Place the cooked oatmeal in a bowl and top with the remaining ingredients. Serve warm.
I found pretty much all of my oatmeal toppings at Target!
I love that this oatmeal can be made in the microwave or on the stove top. It only takes about 5 minutes to prepare this delicious breakfast.
I like to take about half of each of my toppings and add them to my oatmeal while it’s still in the pot on the stove. This incorporates all the toppings nicely and also warms them up!
Then, I add the cooked oatmeal to a bowl and top it with the remaining ingredients!
This was such an easy, delicious breakfast to make! And it totally reminds me of all those delicious desserts I’ve enjoyed at various Middle Eastern restaurants!
Each bite bursts with so many delicious flavors! I love the crunch of the pistachios, the fragrance of the rose water, the chewiness of the dates and the sweetness of the honey!

I eat oatmeal just about every day when it’s cold. I need to change up my breakfast and make it more exotic with your recipe. Yum! I’ll have to buy some rose water and pistachios.
There’s nothing quite as delicious and easy to prepare as a nice bowl of oatmeal in the morning!
That does look yummy! I love stove-cooked oatmeal, it’s so much better than instant… I grew up eating it, and this version looks awesome.
Oatmeal is one of my breakfast treats, this one is yummy and healthy. I would love it for sure.

My kids saw the commercial on TV and had me make them a “fancy” oatmeal breakfast. I used chopped apples and caramel, you would have thought they hit the lottery.
Haha I love that! My kids would do the same thing!
Would never have thought of rose water in oatmeal but I really want to try it out. Great add-ins. #client

You should definitely try Jeanine! Really tasty!
I’ve not eaten oatmeal in years but I loved it as a child. Now that I’m trying to eat better I think I need to pick some up.
I’ve been meaning to incorporate more oats into my daily diet but they’re usually so bland! This recipe though looks right up my alley! I will definitely have to pick up a few supplies and give it a try, thank you for sharing! 🙂
Eating oatmeal for breakfast is a great way to stabilize our blood sugar. Very healthy
I love oatmeal. There’s nothing else that I eat that is quite as satisfying. And it’s so low in calories but so good for you. I would eat anything with it. anything.
