One dollar custom photo magnet DIY

I was looking at all the wooden plaques at Hobby Lobby the other day and was amazed at the wide selection. They have circles, squares, diamonds, triangles and more. They have small, medium, and large ones. I figured I could make a custom photo magnet out of a medium circle wooden plaque to go on our refrigerator. The wooden plaque cost me one buck. And everything else I had around the house.

Read on to see how I made this extra cheap photo magnet.

First I painted the plaque. I chose a bright pink acrylic paint that I already had in my craft drawer.


Then I printed out a black and white photo of my little monkey. I put it face down on a table, placed the plaque down on top of it, and traced the outline of the plaque, and then cut out the photo. Using Mod Podge, I adhered the photo to the plaque. I brushed on a little Mod Podge on top of the photo to further seal it and protect it.


Then I scoured through my scrapbook embelishments to find a pretty border. I found this series of circles. I cut out each one and placed them around the circumference of the photo for a more finished look.

Lastly, I snatched a magnet from an old, ugly magnet on the fridge, and hot glued it to the back of the wooden plaque. Don’t we all have an old magnet that we would be happy to get rid of. I love how this turned out.


Pretty neat for a dollar, huh?
