Benefits of Weighted Blankets: My Experience
March 4, 2019This is a sponsored post written by me for Mosaic Weighted Blankets. All opinions are mine alone.
As a mom & entrepreneur that’s always on the go, finding ways to decompress is always a top priority for me. At the end of a long day, there’s nothing better than cuddling in bed with a cozy blanket and my favorite tea. I recently discovered the benefits of weighted blankets so when Mosaic Weighted Blankets offered to send me and my family a few of their blankets, I was so excited and said YES!!
Have you heard of weighted blankets? They have gained quite a lot of popularity recently. Mosaic makes weighted blankets that are filled with tiny BPA-free plastic beads to add weight. Every blanket is custom made to fit your exact height and weight you can order blankets between 5-25 pounds. The general guideline is that the blankets are 10% of your body weight. Since the pellets are sewn into individual quilted squares, they stay put and provide an even distribution of weight across the body or bed. Whether your home is styled in a traditional way or a modern way, there’s a blanket that will fit right into your home. Unlike most of their competitors who sell gray blankets made in China, Mosaic’s weighted blankets are made right in the heart of Texas. Their store is located in Austin and you can get blankets for men, women, kids, and couples (Sizes include: twin, double, queen, or king).
Mosaic Weighted Blankets sent us two weighted blankets for the girls and they LOVE them. Sophia’s favorite color is teal so of course she got a teal blanket. It is a beautiful rich color and it is so SOFT. She has been enjoying sleeping with it since we received it.
Charlotte’s favorite color is pink so she is loving this beautiful pink floral pattern. She wants to cuddle under the blanket even on the sofa! These blankets are super comfortable.
The hubby and I got a grey king size blanket. I love that it easily fits all the way around our king-sized bed and matches our master bedroom decor. When I first took it out of the box, I was very impressed with just how luxurious it looks and feels. The cotton fabric is crisp and doesn’t get warm. The blanket comes perfectly stitched and seems very durable.
Also, the feel of the weight is pleasant- it’s not too heavy at all! It feels very comfortable to have it draped over me.
So many people can benefit from weighted blanket therapy. In fact, weighted blankets are a safe, non-drug therapy for those struggling with a lack of sleep or those seeking more calm in their lives. How exactly do these blankets work? Well, they provide sensory input to the deep pressure touch receptors throughout the body. When these receptors are activated, it’s associated with a rise in serotonin (the feel good hormone) and a decrease in cortisol (the stress hormone.) Moreover, weighted blankets are very much like a firm hug, helping us feel secure & safe. And who doesn’t love a big hug after a long day?!
You can use these blankets to cover the whole body for overnight sleep, to wrap around the shoulders or to lay across the lap. These blankets serve an important role in helping to treat a number of conditions:
- Sensory disorders of any kind
- Sleep disorders
- Insomnia, Falling Asleep & Staying Asleep
- ADD/ADHD
- Asperger’s & Autism Spectrum Disorder
- Restless Legs Syndrome
- Anxiety & Panic
- Sensory Integration Disorder

Thanks for sharing this, Jennifer! I actually just started hearing about weighted blankets but had no idea what they were or why you’d want one. Sounds intriguing and I bet my son would love one of these. Do you find that they are a little warmer than normal blankets though? Or just heavier?
They are just heavier than normal blankets. I haven’t found them to be too warm at all. Hope that helps!
This is really interesting to read, myself and my partner were talking about weighted blankets the other night. It seems like something he could definitely do with, I do worry about them feeling like you are pinned down though.
