A Christmas Village Re-Imagined

I love a good Christmas village. In fact, I think I started collecting Christmas houses when I was a teenager. Every year or so, I would add a house to my collection. This is what the houses look like.
Standard Christmas village houses, right? Nothing special.
I got tired of looking at them in their boring, store-bought, cookie-cutter colors. So I decided to spruce them up. Here’s what I used:
The first step was to simply paint them silver but I didn’t want to completely conceal their original colors underneath so I diluted the paint 50%. Equal parts water and paint. I love the way they came out.
So quaint and cozy.
Still so magical though, right?
Next, I wanted to add a bit of sparkle to them so the natural choice is glitter, right? Gold glitter, of course! But just on the roofs.
I am totally in love with the way these babies came out.
I love that the gold roofs make the set look so uniform.
I put them on this wall shelf I’ve had around for a while. I recently painted it white and I love the way the houses look on here.
It’s perhaps one of my fave Christmas projects this year. This garland was up there, too!
Do you like the houses with the gold roofs?
Have you ever painted Christmas houses?

So pretty with the silvery finish. I have a Dept 54 Santa’s Village, but haven’t put it out for years.
I love old style Christmas villages. I love the look of what was ages ago. Your creations are really nice!
You definitely have a knack for painting! I can tell you were very patient and meticulous! These are amazing!
My daughter just put up their Christmas village. Something everyone loves to look at and enjoy
These look so pretty…. I wish I was as talented as you, lol. I bet they look nice for the holidays too.
Oh my gosh…I love this idea! We have a Christmas village and my girls would be thrilled if I glittered them up!!!
Guess am among several people with extensive Christmas village .Used to go all out arranging making snow hills, whatever could think up. We have lot smaller house now so no place to set village up. Doing all I used to do has gotten to be too much, especially organizing after holidays. Have had 3 major joint replacement surgeries over holidays so over years has slowed me down, will be enuf. Found 3 small houses will paint white, sprinkle with glitter.
Have great week
Yes, I used to create little snow hills too with the fake snow. I also used a mirror once to make an ice-skating rink! Now I try to keep things a bit simpler around here. Just make the houses look pretty & place them on a shelf! 🙂
Glad you will try this project on some of your houses, too! Thanks for your comment and have a wonderful week!!
