Ikea RAST Dresser Hack: A Makeover Before & After
April 29, 2015I knew for the girls’ rooms, I would need some more storage space, but I didn’t want anything too big… or too expensive. When I saw the RAST Dresser at Ikea, I knew this was it! At only $35, it’s a steal! And being made of raw wood, it’s perfect for personalizing!! It’s perfect!
So I picked up two from Ikea, and today’s post will focus on the one in Sophia’s room. The other dresser will be re-done any day now, so I will post on that one shortly.
So here is how I made it over!
Ikea RAST Dresser Hack: A Makeover Before & After
So here is what it looks raw!
Pretty plain, right?
The next step was I painted the drawer fronts the same color of pink that I used to paint the stencils. I only painted the fronts of the drawers because I didn’t think that it would be necessary to paint the sides.
Then, it was time to paint the dresser itself. I picked a lavender color that I had on hand. I had picked up a whole quart of this pretty purple color for only $2. As I explain in the post about DIY Painting Tips, always check the home improvement stores for their “Oops” colors- colors that are mixed but never picked up or purchased by the customer. These are often offered at a huge discount!
And all that’s left is to insert the drawers back into the dresser! I love the look of the pink drawers in the purple dresser. I will say, however, that those knobs are not here to stay! I have not yet figured out what I will do with them. I’m thinking about maybe using like spray-painted animal heads or something… not sure yet.For now, I’m leaving those round wooden knobs raw, but I might eventually just spray-paint them purple or white.
