DIY decorative metallic orb sphere
July 15, 2015I’ve seen decorative orbs & spheres at home decor stores for some time now. They are definitely on-trend and pretty cool-looking (if you ask me!) I love the look and figured I might be able to DIY it.
You will not believe how simple and easy this tutorial is. You know what these decorative orbs are made out of?!
Yup, small embroidery hoops!! Isn’t that cool? Ok, here is the super simple tutorial!
DIY decorative metallic orb sphere
Supplies:
2 small embroidery hoops
spray paint
Directions:
1. Each embroidery hoop is composed of an inner ring and an outer ring with a small screw. Disassemble the hoops, so you have both inner rings separate from both outer rings. Nestle the inner rings into each other so they form an “x.” Then use one of the outer rings (one with a screw) and position it around the two inner rings forming an “x.” Tighten the screw so all three rings stay together.
2. Next, take the fourth (and final) ring (another one with a screw attached) and position it around the other rings in a horizontal position. In other words, if the first 3 rings are positioned as longitude lines, then the fourth ring is positioned as a latitude line. Tighten that screw to hold everything together. Here is a picture to clarify.
3. Finally, spray paint the whole thing a few times from different angles. Ta-da! All done! It’s a cute decorative item to place on a shelf, use as a paperweight, or simply place on a counter!
It was such an easy project, but I think it looks so industrial-looking. I love how the screws are on the outside and how they stand out.
I think this project would look really cool if larger embroidery hoops were used. That would make a big statement!
Hope you try this project! Happy crafting, friends!
