I love creating decor for the house! There’s nothing more satisfying than putting my own personalized touches on my space. Whether that’s setting up a picture ledge for the hallway, creating whimsical art for the kid’s bedroom, or adding something fun to the front porch, I have a passion for DIY. Today’s project features the tutorial for a DIY Abstract Art using stencils from Stencil Revolution.
DIY Abstract Art
Gather the supplies you’ll need for this project:
- canvas board, 18″x24″
- Stencil Revolution Honeycomb Stencil, 24″x18″
- turquoise spray paint (I used this one)
- gold leaf (I used this one)
- liquid glue
- small paintbrush
Start by taping the stencil right onto the canvas board. The stencils are laser-cut so the images are sharp. Plus, the stencils are on a firm plastic sheet so it stays in place easily.
Take the canvas outdoors and spray paint using short, light sprays. I intentionally tried to make the coverage somewhat uneven because I wanted the piece to look natural & organic.
Once the spray paint is fully dry, use the paint brush to apply some glue onto the canvas in a random fashion. You can just load the brush with some glue and create lines, zig-zags, swirls, … anything you like.
Then apply the gold leaf to the canvas and using a clean brush, brush away the excess gold leaf. This is a messy project, but the results are fabulous. I love how the gold leaf really shines & sparkles.
I wound up creating a random organic diagonal line across the canvas with my glue so here is the final result of this project!
The colors are perfect for my home office, but this project can be personalized to your decor. You could get creative and add various paint colors to this piece. The possibilities are truly endless.
I eventually decided to hang this piece on a blank wall in the corner of my office. Every time I look up at it, I smile knowing that I created it for a fraction of the cost of a store-bought version.
This project would not have been possible without that gorgeous Honeycomb Stencil from Stencil Revolution. By the way, they sent me two other stencils: the Home Stencil and the Fish Scale Stencil. I see many more home decor projects in my future!
I would love to create an accent wall in either our entryway or our master bathroom using one of the Wall Stencils. Stencil Revolution has Wall Stencils, Animal Stencils, Decor Stencils, Animal Stencils, Nature Stencils, Sports Stencils and so much more. You can order the stencils in small sizes for doing a fun craft or in larger sizes for creating an accent wall. Each of the stencils are made of durable mylar (with a thickness of 10 mil), which makes it easy to clean and reuse. Your artwork turned out really cute. We’ve made a few abstract art pieces. Our family has a unique perspective when it comes to art. There’s a gallery at a college in Rochester, NY named in honor of my uncle and funny thing is all of the kids inherited his love of art.
