As a mom, my favorite type of gift to receive from my kids is a handmade one. So with Mother’s Day quickly approaching, I decided to make something special for my own mom. To get inspired, I browsed through dozens & dozens of creative project ideas from Bluprint– I decided this DIY Marbled Clock would be the perfect gift for my mom!

Did you know that Bluprint offers subscriptions? If you’ve ever wanted to learn knitting, painting, quilting, etc., Bluprint offers all the resources you need to get started. The site also offers a wide range of tutorial videos to help you master new skills. This Mother’s Day, consider giving mom a Bluprint subscription. You can get 3 months of Bluprint for $22.99, 6 months for $42.99, or 1 year for $79.99 + 1 free bouquet of flowers via Bouqs.com. Giving the gift of “making” has never been easier – or more fun!

Another option for mom is one of the Bluprint Boxes – these come filled with all the tools & steps required to complete a DIY project. You can choose from any of the nine categories available: Sewing, Quilt, Knit, Cake, Embroider, Crochet, Watercolor, Colored Pencil or Drawing. These boxes are such an easy way to make something creative without having to put in all the effort gathering the right supplies, tools and tips.

Now, let me show you how I made that DIY Marbled Clock for my mom. First I gathered the supplies I’ll need: old record, safety gloves, acrylic paint, paint brush, clock mechanism, resin starter kit, plastic cups (to lift the record off the floor) and large tray (to catch any overflow paint.)

I painted the record with a single base coat.

I then mixed the resin & hardener for two full minutes to activate it.

Then I split up the mixture into 3 different cups and added a pea-sized amount of different blue paints to each cup. I stirred each mixture with a plastic stick.

Next I poured/dripped/swirled the various colors onto the record and used a toothpick to swirl the colors together. I then let the record dry for a full 24 hours.

Once the paint/resin was fully dry, I decided to add some gold leaf for a bit more glamour. Gold leaf comes in sheets and can add a lot of sparkle to projects!

I simply used a small paintbrush to apply some glue to random section of the record. Then I placed my gold leaf sheet on top and brushed away the excess. This was an optional step, but I really like what the gold leaf added to the finished project!

Once that was dry, I simply drilled a hole into the center and installed the clock mechanism. Easy peasy! I really like the way this came out!

Fancy clock that I made myself? Yeah, I’m pretty proud of it! I know my mom will enjoy this clock too! What are you getting for your mom this Mother’s Day? Consider a Bluprint subscription of Bluprint Box as the perfect way to expand your mom’s crafting skills! I can’t wait to see my mom’s face when I tell her I made this myself!

A recent survey conducted by Bluprint found that seventy-five percent of adults in the US currently participate in at least one creative activity. Chances are mom is one of them, and Bluprint is the perfect gift this Mother’s Day.
